I am a big fan of both of these social networks, although there are certainly clear differences. In my opinion the community in BlogCatalog much more blatantly promotes their own blogs, although whenever I add friends on MBL they seem to feel a need to tell me about how rich I will become if I visit their blog.

I am one of the people who has been speaking out against the spam.. I hadn't had the time to check out blog catalog yet, but your post is an excellent comparison of the two and I will have a look at it over the weekend. I might be joining you over there at BlogCatalog soon :)

I'm going to mention this post of yours in my weekly wrap up tomorrow. ;)

Yet another wonderful post! I joined Blog Catalog a few months ago but wasn't an active member. Since the day MyBlogLog invented one more tool for spammers (mass messaging), I have started to use both Blog Catalog and BUMPzee.

In a couple of days, I've 20 members in my blog neighborhood and people seem to be 'human beings', not some spam bots! There is also no one to start bitching that "why did you join so many communities??", even though I've joined about 100 communities that I found interesting and related to my niche/interest.

And I'm loving the discussion section over at Blog Catalog. Blog rating is also amazing. Only one thing I can say that my overall experience with Blog Catalog has been quite relaxing.
