Hi Ian,

It's so funny how I found your blog! I need some materials to write an article in my video promo about "give and you shall receive" mentality in the web 2.0 world. So I googled it up and here I am :)
I can not agree more with what you're saying here. I'm new to the blogging world and got lucky that I found this post so that I won't do what newbies bloggers do - keep the traffic for themselves!
I also downloaded Yaro's blogging blue print and found the same theme there...Give First and You Shall Receive! I think, this is extremely crucial even more so for newbies bloggers (me, one of them :) ) to gain our 1st batch of traffic to our blogs.
Thanks for the video lesson!
Cheers,
Mutiara

I you're right about the 'beginner mentality'. It shows a kind of maturity if you are not afraid to link elsewhere. It shows confidence.

Yes, I tested it serveral months and I have to say it increased my traffic and earnings positive. Trackbacking is a nice way to generate a little extra income.

I am in total agreement with the thought to link out to other blogs. Several of the blogs I frequent say to beware of creating too many doors out of your blog to others. My blog is all about creating value for my readers, be that through my articles (hopefully the majority) and linking to what I consider interesting articles in other blogs. My mission is to enhance my readers' experience. I want them to read my articles, and also follow links to other blogs, find that those two items have worth, and return to my blog to repeat the process.

Morning Ian,

You're right, it is human nature. Curiosity. I ALWAYS visit blogs that post comments or trackbacks to my site.

If you happen to be doing a post that is similar or complements another's bloggers entry, it only makes sense to reference them and do a trackback. It's a great way to share traffic.

Cheers,
Heather
