I think they are still working.. I’ll check again in a few days. Unless TLA is has a mechanism in place to administer and rotate thier affiliate ids and sync up new tinyurls each time I don’t believe your affiliate id will change. If anything, I think they are doing it for SEO reasons. They could be taking a hit or it is possible sites with obvious affiliate links are taking a hit.

I have written a plugin for wordpress that will let you manage such affiliate links by hiding them with a redirect. My plugin let’s you define such affiliate links in a nice web interface inside wordpress admin.

The plugin is relesed under GPL so everybody is free to use modify or distribute it.

i think its just a way to game google. recently my blog PR was demoted due to paid post and possibly many affiliate link. by changing to tinyurl, i think text link will mask affiliate link.

I do not think its for affiliate cloaking purposes – as I cloak my own affiliate links, it may have something to do with google and paid links – still uncertain, but I will definitely try to find out

Maybe it’s so affiliate links will work in emails – sometimes long links can get broken in emails with funny word-wrap. Also maybe they figure people will be more likely to click on it if it’s not an obvious affiliate link?
