MediaTrust: All About the FTC and More…

This is the last of the video series that I have been posting up in the past few days. This one is a pretty lengthy one and a really good video I think in my opinion. I got a chance to talk to Lauren from MediaTrust about the issues that has been going around the affiliate marketing industry about the blog style designs, using celebrity images, ftc laws, and all that good stuff.

I think I asked too many questions about the FTC to Lauren that she started turning red as the video progresses, but she held her own. The video is 10 minutes long, so I hope you are able to watch it that long, it does have a lot of good info. Lauren definitely gave a lot of information and was willing to share the information with me and my readers.

Again, I want to thank Peter and the whole MediaTrust team for having me at their office and hope to come visit once more!

The way for the affiliate networks to track where leads are coming from for fraud reasons and for quality assurance reasons would be to make a double link system in there network.

    Let me explain

When you grab the acai offer advaliant has you would get the affiliate link for the offer, like normal. If it is cloaked and redirected – whatever, affiliates have to protect there leads which I understand. But there would also be a separate tracking link from the network that has to go onto your site (like a landing page tracking link from Prosper) that HAS to be un altered so that the network alone (not the advertiser) can see where the leads are coming from and what the site is saying about the offer. This way – the affiliates that are falsely promoting an offer will get caught and leads removed and removed from the campaign also.

The reason why Acai from what I can tell got as big as it did was because of all the BS marketing tactics that were used to promote the offer and nothing was done to stop it, where certain affiliates were telling there traffic they could lose 60 pounds in one month.Ya, those guys made a shit load of cash (50k per day) but they also killed an industry that should of lasted a lot longer then it has and also are responsible for all the red flags that went up. The free trial industry has been around a lot longer then the acai offers have been.

Also, it is not just acai offers that need to be looked at – almost all weight loss offers operate in the same manner. So, if there are rules in place for acai offers – they have to apply to all the weight loss offers.
