Yesterday, I drove t Baltimore, Maryland to meetup with Shawn Collins, Missy Ward, Buy.at team, and others to join in an Advertising Tax Talk within our industry. It was a crazy 2 hour or so drive but, it was very informative and fun.

I got in early and had lunch with buy.at. It was good food and home brewed beer which was good too. Never really had home made beer, but it was an entertaining flavor. After lunch I toured their office, it was a pretty big office. It is split into sections. The majority of it was advertising.com and there was a small section for buy.at, but they are all a family network.

I also met up with Robert from Contempt.me, since I had about a 4 hour gap from lunch till the Tax talk I decided to drive up and meet up with him. It was great to chat and talk and discuss business.

During the tax talk Shawn and Missy answered question and explained to us what is happening within our industry about the advertising tax, as this affects online business and affiliate marketers. There was a lot of information and a lot of people put in their input and ideas on how they can try to combat the issue.

If you want to find out more information visit these sites:

After the tax talk we all started to grab some food and beer. They had a nice lunch menu, which I have been posting on Twitter. If you are not following me you should cause I am cool. The crowd was a bit older, I met up with Benny as well. So there were 2 young people at the crab fest.

The food was banging, the crab was crazy good, and the atmosphere was definitely enjoyable. The view from the dock area was amazing. Just watching the boats move through was just a nice view. I also metup with Erik from Paradigm and he was there to learn more about the tax stuff and as well drink.

Again thanks to Shawn, Missy Ward, and buy.at in providing an informative session for online businesses.

Video below of me taking the water taxi, touring, the crabfest and a freestyle session. Not sure why the video was encoded so poorly on Youtube. Boo.

Damn man, I always miss the good meetup’s around here (Baltimore) – maybe I need to subscribe to AffBuzz (no-brainer)!

Either way, nice video… hope some affiliate networks like Affiliate Summit and some other conferences consider Baltimore next time for their conferences, even if a small one :)

    Hey Ian,
What is your reaction re: the tax situation? Have your readers come to your with their concerns or asked for advice? I’m interested to see the backlash…

On a side note, if anyone has been dropped by their affiliates because of your location and sales tax, you should check out RevResponse.com. We don’t charge taxes to our partners because you’re not selling anything just getting paid to give away free business resources.

    Ian,
It was a pleasure meeting and having lunch with you at the Tax Talk and Crabs feast. You are very knowledgeable about the Internet Marketing, I am still in the infancy stages. I am going to explore your information in Twitterbank, I can use some extra $$$ to buy diapers. Anyway, we will catch up at ASE in New York next month. All the best bro.
