Traffic with AdBrite Wasn’t So Bright!

Traffic, Traffic is important! Where you get that traffic can vary and since it is all about testing, I decided to test another source of traffic. AdBrite has been around for a while now and I decided to go ahead and test them out. I read some mixed reviews about them but I guess I had to dive into it myself if I wanted to learn what kind of traffic they produce.
Well take a quick look at their stats that was provided to me. Pretty impressive right. I was in awe, I couldn’t even test their quality of traffic. Since it is important to get traffic, the next important thing is to test its quality.
The below screenshot is pretty bad and might be similar and worst than AdChap! But I am still pretty hesitant because they do have support unlike AdChap. I am getting emails to either raise my bid or expand my search.

What is AdBrite?
It is basically advertising on websites via contextual links and banners. The new thing that I want to test is the Full Page Ad! This looks promising, if I can get the traffic first. You are able to target by location, category, keywords, and demographic info. I chose the simple banner advertisement and see if I can get some exposure with AdBrite via some banner exposure.
I targeted my niche with keywords and kept it in the United States first to test traffic, but again 1 click. Not really sure if it was worth a test.
ABrite does have a good intro to advertising on their network. They say to alter and rotate ads and test different ad types. So I am going to test out their full blown ads, got to ask a network a specific question on this, cause I have an idea.
Another thing I found interesting was each time I activate a campaign I get charged $5 dollars to start the campaign, interesting. I haven’t seen this before. Pay to run a campaign?? Thought I was paying per click. Even when a campaign gets disapproved, you fix the problem and then resubmit it you are charge again $5. So I already spent 10$ without even doing any sort of advertising. I think they need to do away with this feature not sure why they do it. I guess it goes through an approval department and they need to get paid? Not sure but it was retarded.
Well the interface was simple and easy to use, very straight forward. They also provide you with a pixel to place on your site to track your impressions etc. I am going to give AdBrite another whirl because I didn’t have to do a deposit, which is better than the rest of the ad networks out there. I rather pay later, I mean I only currently owe .70 cents.
But I am going to test this full page ad, looks interesting.

Yeah I made a boo boo with Adbrite. Set up a test campaign and forgot all about it. Then I noticed a debit from my bank account for $1343. Sad… And no conversions…
here are my thoughts on adbrite…
i began buying through them in 2006 when the network was still halfway decent (used to spend $20k+/mo) and profitable. since then they have let in anyone and everyone into their network so the last time i used them the run-of-network was ABSOLUTE CRAP. NEVER NEVER NEVER place a network ad in adbrite (unless you have time to cull through 3k publishers and remove them one by one), and on the flip side i’d avoid publishing adbrite network ads on your site.
but that’s not to say ALL their publishers are spam sites. the only time i would buy on adbrite is if it’s a targeted placement, and even then some publishers would move their ad spots so you have to assume that your publisher will leave the spot where it is, and keep tabs on them. you may still be able to find good spots since 1. targeted placements are controlled and 2. a lot of people probably bailed out from buying traffic with them (me included).
i didn’t know they charge $5 but i would have to assume it’s so the system isn’t flooded with spam advertisers. if that is the case, then i would also have to assume they haven’t cleaned up their network!
Everytime I use a html table it turns my adbrite ads into a table?
Very interesting post. I’ve read enough not-so-great things about Adbrite to stay away from them. Hopefully your next test produces better results though!
[...] Traffic With AdBrite Wasn’t So Bright!… [...]
I have used adbrite 3 years back when my adsense account mistakenly banned, I have tried it over 3 month with quite good amount of traffic but the result was very bad, the ads was not targeted well and the income was too low, later on my adsense account reinstated and I never look back to adbrite since then.
As they do not have a system for better targeting I believe the traffic will not be good.
I guess they know their traffic doesn’t convert so they have to charge you to set up campaigns and make money that way. Sounds shady.
lol I thought AdChap is the worst one as I read that post last week, Adbrite even worst than that. Perhaps Google Adwords provides better result? Between, I don’t try any paid advertising because it’s not the time for me to spend money on it, perhaps in future.

Lee
I’ve had the same experience with Adbrite as an advertiser. The quality of the traffic they send is awful. As a publisher though, I did manage to make a little bit of money off of them. They do pay, albeit quite slowly.
Thanks for this feedback, that’s just amazing
this is the post i wrote on adbrite being gamed almost 2 years ago to the day
http://www.msdanielle.com/when-adbrite-gets-gamed/
BUT i did also write a post on buying flat rate ads that gives advice on how to buy non RON ads. that would be the way to go with adbrite IMO
just like few days when i have around 30k impression due to an event, my traffic surge, and only 1 click on the ad, and adbrite just gave me $0.10, lol
man, adbrite is so weird. so i logged in a couple days ago and i apparently have been earning referral commissions this whole month… i haven’t been promoting it but someone signed up and i’m getting pretty decent earnings. so i check to see when the payment is scheduled to go out, and it says August 3rd. AUGUST THIRD!!! LOL!
@ms danielle,
you’re lucky, mind sharing sharing how much, lol, but august 3rd is too way long.
Adbrite sometimes can be disgusting. That is my take about it.

damn at least you made some money out of it! yea I stopped advertising on adbrite – its hard to filter and going through their market place is time consuming.
I’ve had a disappointing experience with AdBrite too. I too tried it as an alternative to AdSense as a publisher. I switched to something else after not making anything from them. As an advertiser, usually it is best to stay away from networks like these. It’s just not quality traffic.
AdBrite is not good for advertiser but it is useful in many other way.
Thanks to sharing this great information.

From a publishers point of view Adbrite was terrible. Next to Bidvertiser it have the lowest CTR out of all the ad programs I had running. After 2 months I made $9 woo yoo.
Adbrite Fails
You can try and submit your blog to some blog submission sites, post comments on blogs that are related to your site, just make sure the blog you post on does not have a no follow tag that way you can get credit for backlinks and possibly get more traffic as well.
I’ve never personally used Adbrite, I’ve used the old msn before, and I was thinking of going into Adbrite, but after reading your thoughts on it, and experience, I guess it might be better not to.
Till then,
Jean
