Why I Think WordPress Will be the Next Gen LP

There is going to be a lot of changes on how users do affiliate marketing, especially with the release of blog style landing pages (LP). These landing pages have raised a bit of controversy over at some forums. Even users have started creating pretty similar LPs based on strong information even though it is just straight pre selling techniques.
Well, 2009 will be the next gen of landing pages. Users are going to be more creative and even more shady as you can say, Adhustler has a great post on how its time to get shady. Even Shoemoney has a predicted on how Google will start to slap these fake blog style LPs.
But I think there is an alternative to these styles, WordPress maybe the answer. WordPress is a very powerful CMS, especially with plugins. Most of these blog style LPs are standard HTML with a javascript comment form – stating comments go through a manual process. The thing is why block comments?

Comments create free content for any website, it is also user generated and it is important for other users to see a conversation. When someone comes to an LP blog style, you can almost say that the user may return to see any updates. Why? Well, blog is a personal information website. Blogs are powerful in providing ’self’ information, information that is outside of the media.
When users add a comment it is creating a sense of a community, and you can easily bet that part of the traffic will return to see if new users added new comments. Blogs is a community, so you can bet there will be users coming back to check for new content. If your blog style LP is saying – this blog will be a style of how I lose weight or how I made money, then you can bet users will bookmark or even try to find an RSS feed, all which can be used to your advantage.
WordPress has a powerful backend, having the ability to alter certain part of the page with simple plugins. I have created OptIn Comments to work with WordPress and I have also other custom plugins to help with certain aspects of my blogs/sites. There are so many plugins out there than can help you with your affiliate marketing, especially when creating blog style LPs.
You do not even have to use WordPress as a blog style LP, customize the front page only to be a simple jump page and add content on the back end to get a higher quality score. You want to create content so you can always have a good QS, it is what Google likes. So WordPress can easily create such a thing for you with ease. With WordPress you can maybe get out of being slapped because you can add content that can be easily added to your blog. Generate or purchase PLR articles and simply upload them to your WordPress style blog, it is content which Google may give points to you, instead of just a 1 page site. (PLR may cause duplicate content, you just have to be smart when purchasing PLR). PLRtoWordPress is a great asset to have for such task.
Another thing about WordPress it is SEO friendly, giving you access to free SERPs. You can start getting traffic from search engines instead of PPC or other means of traffic. You will also be seen in blog search engines, which can be more important than traditional SERPs.
Do you think WordPress will be the next gen of landing pages? You can create a simple jump page and add content on the back of it to gain more of a bigger quality score. WordPress is very powerful and can definitely help with creating different style LPs.
Do you think more users will be using WordPress in creating Landing Pages?

Great post Ian. I am fully convinced Worpress will be the next gen. platform for landing pages. As you said, the more plugins that are developed as well as the more LP specific themes come out, the easier it will be to for people to start using Wordpress for their landing pages.
Right now there aren’t many themes out there geared toward landing pages…. be on the lookout for UBD to step it up in that area in Feb. ‘09
Wordpress is definitely an awesome CMS system. However, i think that Google may wise up to the fact that wordpress by definition is probably not made to advertise commercial products since its supposed to be blogging software. For this reason I think Google may look for the footprints of a wordpress blog and slap its QS. Of course its just a guess but I think it might happen.
I agree that Google may very well catch on but that’s the nature of this business: having to adapt to new developments. Wordpress will work for the next little while.
Na, Google will always love blogs. Just for the fact they are mostly current.
If you slack off with posting and maintaining your site it should lose rank like every other site should. Google does need to fix the older site issue…..there are so many old – out dated sites taking up high page ranks spots just because they are old.
@Collin – I think you need to learn how to read/comprehend. This post is not about SEO.
WP can be a good LP platform, though a couple of issues need to be resolved for it to be effective.
1) Your webhosting needs to be scalable, since WP’s PHP files need more processing power compared to static html pages. A PHP -> html caching plugins like WP super cache can take care of this.
2) The blog needs to be customized so the XFN and other blog goop is cleaned up, so it looks a little less blog-like.

cant wait! let me know if you guys need some input – I already started creating plugins for aff marketing for wordpress
Wordpress is fantastic for blogs and even websites in some cases. The wide variety of themes available, and the constantly updating and new plugins being released making your blog better are hard to beat.
And to answer your question – Yes I definitely think Wordpress style landing pages will be appearing in 2009. Great Post.
This is a very interesting concept that I think will totally change the blogosphere. Once Wordpress comes up with something as significant as this, everybody will jump on the idea quickly and it will spread like wild fire.
I agree, I think that WordPress will be the next gen of landing pages.
Even now it is pretty good as a LP, with the options to select a post or page to be your “Front page displays”.
I’ve been using Wordpress for many years, and with the new update feature in 2.7, I think that it will open up Wordpress to even more people, as people new to online business will need less technical know how.

I know a number of people who are using Wordpress for their landing pages. It is just a matter of time before these become more widely accepted and used.
They give certain advantage as you have pointed out and if it gives a marketer an edge, they will use it. As landing page themes become more widely available and accessible, they will become even more popular.

I totally agree with you, and it seems that many affiliates are all ready using blogs to rank better for their AM sites. And I also agree that it is not smart to block comments, they are totally free site content.
Good question. Well, in my honest opinion, I think there are brighter chances. With the unlimited plugin options, LP can be made up with so many options.
Despite what others are doing (some even argue that WP takes too much of a bandwidth), I’ve been using WP to create a single landing page. Simply because I could maximize the use of plugin to do certain tasks that a simple HMTL page couldn’t. So I’m pretty much agree with your prediction.

WordPress has it all when it comes to blogging. It is simply the best system ever in my opinion.
Do you know that 50 of 100 best blogs use wordpress. Only 3 use blogspot, few use drupal.
Wordpress is my choice too – lots of plugins and google likes it. Pinging and tags work pretty well for me – just add all-in-one seo and it’s half of online success.
This is a very interesting concept that I think will totally change the blogosphere.
Thanks for giving the information.
