Paid Programs are the Best TV Shows to Watch

I just realized I watch TV when I wake up. It isn’t a bad thing but instead of watching the news, going to espn, watching cnn, or music channel – I find myself watching the paid programs. I am not sure how long I have been doing this but I just realize I watch pointless sales pitches on TV.

I also never bought anything form these infomercials or paid programs. I find it interesting the types of products that they are selling and how they are selling it. I find it relates to me in a way that I too also pitch and sell when I promote an affiliate offer or product. I personally found it interesting some of the strategies they use are used in the online space.

For example, testimonials are a big part of the paid programs as well as showing live examples of the product at work. This relates to what I promote because it proves to be a selling point.

I browse multiple channels looking at and watching the full paid program just to see how many times parts of the infomercial is being repeated. One big part I found was the flow of the infomercial, it is similar to a sales type landing page. They had timers and one time offer specials. Everything seemed to point out at me showing that all these strategies being used in the infomercial space are also being used in traditional online marketing.

It amazes me that marketing is the same everywhere you go and look. It isn’t about the type of marketing you are in – affiliate marketing, info marketing, email marketing, etc. Marketing is marketing and strategies use to get the user to take action right away is being used in every type of marketing.

By watching some of these infomercials I found them to be interesting just because I like to see the structure they use. For example I was watching the Insanity infomercial and found most of it are stories, testimonials, proof of change, and the actual product in action. These were the main points that stuck out to me and were repetitive.

Since I have my own product as well, I can learn from these specific paid programs their marketing tactics and merge them to the online space. There isn’t a big difference but a big similarity – it is just being used in a different type of marketing venue – the TV.

Do you watch the paid program channels when you have your cup of coffee in the morning?

Some of them are horrible. But they still sell. So that’s like the “ugly landing page” out performing the sexy looking landing page.

Infomercials are very fun to watch and you can learn a lot from them. On most of them they say what the price was before and then they offer a 50% discount if you call within the 5 minutes. This makes the customer look like he is saving money and customers love to save money.

You should watch the CNBC Original “As Seen On TV”, it’s got great insights and stories about the background and inner workings of infomercials.

I see a few infomercials before I hit the sack. I’m a night owl, but when I first got into internet marketing I would try to learn a few things from them too.

I was actually surprised to see how similar their marketing techniques were to a good internet marketer. They show the benefits, use testimonials and the “limited time only” or “bonus” to make people take action.

    Hi Ian,

I’m french and when I come in USA, I can’t stop watching these infomercials…
I learn so much by analysing them, they are really well produced.

Honestly, I can’t watch anything on the US TV, series or movies because of too many ads (how can you watch TV in america honestly ? In france we all complain about ads, but in your programs it’s just impossible to focus on the show… ;) )

But as a Marketer, I love infomercials :D

I’ve seen a few infomercials from time to think, with the mind set of learning from them. As a marketer, and someone in business you can definitely get alot of takeaway by studying each infomercial. Oh and… the extenze late night infomercials are hella funny :-P

    Till then,

I watch infomercials too. Sometimes just to pass the time and I don’t know it just seems nice and interesting to watch and like you said we can learn a lot of things from it. The only difference I can see is that they’re on TV and we’re online.

As a rule I do not watch television, in fact I don’t even own a television set, but your point is well taken, Fernando. The infomercials are well researched and put together by agencies who have been involved in marketing for years. The same principles of catching fish are relied on pretty much across the board. The basics always remain the same.

Hi Ian, I also have this habit of watching infomercials even though I have never picked up the phone to actually order any of them. Some of the products are really interesting just by the way they present it to the viewer even though it may be a product that’s not really that special or unique, so definitely a lot to be learnt about selling from watching them.

I don’t think that paid programs on Tv realy work and they do make profits? I have never seen their product working as they say.

You can learn some good marketing styles with them or you may develop with your own.

I definitely agree that marketing has parallels from one medium to the next. A good marketer can thrive with any medium. It is all about getting into the mindset of your target audience and hammering home selling points and the call to action.

I actually did a post about this a week or two ago. It seems that all the infomercials offer the same exact thing on each one which I talked on.

I be honest, I never bought any, but get a kick out of watching them. It actually gets my creative ideas going.

@dustin damn I never bought one via the TV but I do have some household items that are as seen on tv stuff

OMG. That’s helarious, I just spent like an hour yesterday watching a Beach Body infomercial for the 10 minute workout.

After watching it I thought to myself “Holy crap they spend a LOT of time talking about testimonials!”

It’s like after 30 minutes of watching I had no idea about what exactly is so great about about the product – all I heard is testimonial after testimonial, after testimonial…

Crazy thing is that I wanted to buy the product myself even though I had no idea what it’s all about just listening to all the great results people got.

After watching that I realized that NONE of my sites have enough testimonials.

    Time to get on that.
