A while back I added a new plugin on my site. It helps with the speed of my blog and the load time of it. Since there is a lot of media on my site with pictures, video, js snippets, etc – I wanted my site to perform well and make sure a lot of the media is not slowing down my site. For example my main page of my blog has a lot of content and is the heaviest load on my blog.

I have been using W3 Total Cache Plugin and it has been great, but more importantly I activated the cloud option within the plugin. Now most of the media is being loaded from Amazon’s S3 platform. The images, js snippets, media, etc. It has resulted in my blog to loaded much faster and according to pingdom.com – 84% faster than most website.

How to Activate CDN with W3 Total Cache

It is fairly easy to install and setup the cloud or even the CDN option within W3 Total Cache. First you will have to enter your Amazon S3 credentials. Click on CDN in the top link menus and find the configuration option, enter your credentials. Once that has been verified you are rady to activate the cloud on your blog and you will notice the speed difference.

Now, simply go to the general settings of W3 Total Cache and find the option labeled CDN. Check off enable and choose your service. Since I already have an Amazon S3 service, I chose that from the drop down.

There are other things on you can speed up your blog from compressing JS and CSS code. Remove unwanted and unnecessary plugins and even reducing images on the blog. If you still want to have these perks, a CDN can be very beneficial and you are only paying for what is being used. Last month my Amazon S3 invoice came out to $3.26. Did not break my pocket at all.

Remember you want your users to start to engage in your blog and to start reading the content on it. If your website does not load then a potential reader or even a lead will leave your site. Also speed is being measure by Google as part of their search algorithm. Google wants to make sure they are providing the most relevant but also useful site to their users.

If you have went to a webpage and it never loaded you get ticked off a bit and you leave. You do not want that happening with your readers. Utilizing W3 Total Cache will increase your load time and you will have happier readers. The best art this plugin is free, you ca easily download it from WordPress: Download W3 Total Cache from WordPress

Yesterday, Luke from PeerFly called me out on Twitter. Just plain shouted me out stating that I was promoting affiliate offers on my blog. Not just any traditional affiliate products but more so a CPA offer. He got me and it’s cool. He didn’t expect it and plus the post was probably not intended for him or our demographic, affiliates. I forgive you Luke. Stop spying on me.

As you know this blog reflects about affiliate marketing, online marketing, and me as a person. I post about travels and helpful hints that maybe related to business in general. These post may not be towards affiliates, but I like to share my experience as I think it helps with you understanding who I am as a person. This means that some posts are probably ranked higher than most pages and get a lot of traction from the search engines.

With a particular post (the one Luke called me out on), I tried to monetize it with information products (Clickbank). The post itself was an informative “how to” post as well. So I figured an ebook would help. I added internal links to the ebook, switch it out for footer links, then banner links – no go. For months it did not work. I then decided to add a CPA offers and almost immediately it performed better. The best part is I was able to put the offer right in front of their face.

So how was I able to turn a blog post with a lot of traffic into an income stream? Simple, I use an exit pop up plugin. The other day I mentioned a WordPress plugin which can help increase your blog optins with a Facebook Connect button. I use the same plugin to help with exit traffic but with a CPA offer instead of a lead gen, allowing me to take advantage of potential prospects leaving my blog.

With WpSubscribers you are able to create multiple optin forms. One great tool they added was custom popup option, which you can create a popup to your own imagination. I personally just create a big image and link the image to an affiliate offer. This way I don’t have to deal with any CSS issues with the popup.

This one click exit pop up lander has helped with high CTR’s because the ad or “pop up lp” is in their face. I also do it on exit for a purpose because I want them to be in tune with the topic they are reading, then influence them with an ad. When I get traffic from the search engines, I always think of that traffic as ‘informative traffic’, meaning they are looking for information, a solution to a problem. Most do not buy right away but they get an experience and that is what I want to do. The best part is there is no backlinks that I personally made, but I rank #1 for several high search keywords.

Anyways…

This particular blog post gets most of its traffic from the SERPs. So I simple searched for an affiliate offer which is relevant to the blog post and create an in your face popup lander. The next step was setting the popup to only show on that particular post. For example the popup you will on this post, my Affiliate Guide, will be shown all over the blog. If I want to show one particular popup, especially a custom one I just pick it from an option within WpSubscrubers within the post I want the pop up to only appear.

This allows me to control what popup or optin form to show on a particular post. I have control and this is what about this plugin. This powerful exit popup script allowed me to start creating an income stream from a blog post which I was not able to before. With these options I can control what popup pops up.

There are times where a blogger has a lot of traffic to an irrelevant blog topic and you need to take advantage of that traffic. Leverage the traffic by gaining the users trust and then influencing them with an affiliate offer more particularly a CPA offer. My reason is they do not have to take a credit card, just fill out a lead gen form. Readers are more interested to participate in something than actually buying, especially if they are coming to your blog for just information.

Plus, you see these types of ad block all the time except they load before you reach the content. Online magazine articles are popular to show you a content gateway with a timer before showing you the actual content. I simply took this idea and show an exit popup right before they leave.

With the new design of my blog, there are a couple new things that have been added. For example list building through this blog is important. I tried to make sure there are optins everywhere, even making them simple. One simple adjustment I did was adding a plugin which adds users to my aweber list with just the Facebook Application platform. If you have not yet seen it, there are several aspects where I present this on my blog.

The more prominent one is when you are just about to leave my blog, an overlay will present you with the ability to download my affiliate guide. Essentially it is just a click gesture which is faster than typing in your email address. I also have my Facebook Connect Application on my landing page for the affiliate guide as well with the option to utilize a traditional webform.

Here is the overlay… You probably seen my sexy face…

After a blog reader decides they want to continue, they click on the download button. The only action that is needed from the end user pint f view is the verification with Facebook. Facebook then stops the user and then asks them again if they want to confirm access to their email address. Here is the screenshot…

All the end user have to do now is click on allow. Simple and they are then subscribed to my blog mailing list. The email address of the user from Facebook is worth more than a traditional optin email address because of its authenticity. A user with a Facebook profile is probably using their real email address and the one they check regularly.

This method proved to be the best way for me to gain more optins from this blog. The plugin that I used for this is called WPSubscriber. It is a very thought out plugin which has a ton of options to get users to subscribed to your mailing list. I found after I implemented this plugin my optin rate quadrupled my daily traditional short form optins. Truth.

WPSubscribers is definitely a great plugin to utilize when trying to leverage users on your blog. It is a very simple plugin to use, but it is also pretty advance as well. For example the Facebook Connect Application part of WPSubscribers took me a while to figure it out. I needed to email the creator of the plugin to get some assistance and they helped me fairly quickly. Great support on their part.

With using Facebook Applications, you are actually creating an app (hence the name) for the user give you access to their information. This allows you to retrieve their email address and name after they have verified your app within Facebook. This is why I added my caricature picture and the text Ian Fernando Blog, giving assurance to the reader.

You setup your WPSubscriber plugin after you setup your Facebook App within Facebook. Once you setup your application in Facebook, you just input the credentials into WPSbuscriber and you are ready to increase optins.

There are also many uses I use this plugin for (maybe another blog post), but mainly to get the attention of my blog readers and giving them a benefit of the download. I also do not let the popup happen when the user enters my blog. I personally find that annoying. Instead I let the overlay popup pop when the user is about to leave the blog post.

My train of thought is this, if someone enters my site they are here with interests to read my blog post or see some pictures. Quickly prompting a blog reader to subscribe increases time on site stats, because of the form redirect, and it also breaks their patience. They enter your blog to receive information, if they are done you can prompt the popup to provide more information. Which is why I have set my WPSubscriber to set when the user is about to leave my blog. Maybe worth a test?

There are a lot of these popup scripts out there, but WPSubscriber is definitely worth the investment as there are so many uses for it. With so many features such as footer optin boxes, header optin boxes, display hidden content, registration subscription, analytics, etc. There are literally a lot of options and features within this plugin. As I stated earlier this plugin is easy to use but it can also be complicated when you want it to be. With so many uses you can start increasing your optins from your blog pretty quickly and overnight.

Blog posts started to rank by themselves without any backlinking of any kind or magic seo. Now that I own several small content sites I want to start monetizing them all. There is the obvious, sell ad space, put adsense, affiliate marketing content, etc. With so much writing and content, it does get over whelming for me sometimes. I have to monetize each page without really thinking too much.

Besides the obvious, you can monetize content by simply adding a small piece of code on your website which will highlight keywords for you automatically and provide you income on a CPC basis. INTENTclick allows bloggers and website owners to make money form their content by creating in text ads.

What are intext ads?

Very simple explanation, it turns keywords within your website into ads. The way this works is simple. INTENTclick crawls and analyzes the page or blog post and if it finds a keyword with a relevant ad it will automatically turn it into an ad link. Simple.

INTENTclick is a network by Kontera but focuses more on direct advertising. INTENTclick is currently open for content about making money, debt consolidation, price comparisons, business opportunities, online quotes, mortgage refinance, trading, back to school, and online earnings. Basically anything to do with make money online.

… take a look at this blog post, I have the script working in the background. Do you see the double underlined words?

If your blog focuses in any of these area, you can utilize INTENTclick to start making money almost immediately. In comparison to adsense, INTENTclick is within the content. This means as users read your content, they see a unique style link. Hover over it and it shows a relevant ad to that keyword.

With adsense or banners, they are in a fixed location and with banner blindness at an all time high, it can be hard for users to even see that specific adsense block. By the way, an advantage to full content monetization is you can utilize both Google Adsense and INTENTclick at the same time and on the same page.

… the system itself and backend.

Once you sign up as a publisher, the backend is very simple. Inside, you are presented with an overall view of your account showing you how many impressions, clicks, ctr, conversions, payout etc. Very simple detailed report with an overall graph of your progress.

One part I like about INTENTclick is the keyword report, it will show you what keywords are highlighted and clicked out. This means you can start wrapping your content on what your readers are interacting with. With this in mind, your content will be more compelling and create more interaction with your intext ads.

Again the backend is very simple, another report they provide is where the click originated from. Meaning, if they clicked on post

Optimizing and monetizing your content isn’t hard. Finding the right tools in which can help you monetize your content can be troublesome, but with INTENTclick it is simple. You register, grab your code, paste within your content site, make money, simple.

As you know I am all about data. Data is the most important part of any marketing campaign to better understand your audience. Recently the popular music sharing app, Spotify rushed in users to their platform by letting users register via Facebook. The strategy here is your feed will be fed music your friends are listening to and in essence allowing you to listen to what they are listening to.

Leveraging Facebook is a must. You should definitely use it to your advantage in your marketing arsenal. One strategy you should be doing is utilizing insights. Facebook insights are used on Fan Pages, to allow you to better understand your audience who “liked” your page. Facebook extended this feature a while back allowing you to get insights to any site.

In this instance I installed Facebook insight on this blog. If you are like me you probably log into Facebook before you even get breakfast. Do you even log out? Probably not. This makes it easier for you to like a site or blog post without re-logging into Facebook. With Facebook insights you want to track the shares of your posts and its reach.

Let’s take a look at my recent insight. As you can see (9/29/11 – 7:22pm est) there has been a total of 20 interactions. It may seem small and my goal is to get it higher ofcourse but look at the reach – 5,336 total impressions with 26 clicks. Just the impressions amazes me. I have a potential to reach an additional 5,336 new readers.

This means I should probably work on my title, the image that Facebook uses as a thumbnail, first couple words Facebook uses from the post, etc. There is just a lot of factors to consider to get the CTR higher. But besides that there is a spike on September 15th, new information which I can use to. Why did that happen, what did I post, how many likes did it make?

This tells me what kind of posts I should write in the future, maybe it even tells me that users are more active on a Thursday? Maybe it tells me more Facebook users are logged on and see the feed of liked posts? So many variables but it is a variable to try to exploit and take advantage. I now have new data which I can use to my advantage.

In this case you can see from the first graph the interaction is higher than the rest of the days. With that interaction came Shares which is distributed on Facebook. With that distribution, came clicks (third graph) from users that were interested enough in the blog post. From the graph it looks like that Thursday produced 2 likes, but provided 804 shared impressions which resulted in more shares. Sharing is caring!

Now the best part is who are clicking and interacting with my blog?

Facebook insights breaks down in who is interacting with your site demographically. Meaning, you will know the age range of your readers, males vs females, what country, and what language. This alone is amazing information because it will be very accurate since this is user inserted data.

Now you can dig deeper and find the actual demographic of your readers without being too creepy. This gives you a big advantage and gives you a clear understanding of who your target audience is. There are other sites out there that does demographic research but Facebook data is bar none the best to utilize.

Now the question is are you using Facebook insights on your blog? Affiliates are you using it on your LP? I know I am!

Thanks for everyone liking my posts!

Do you like the new blog redesign? I decided to do a new blog redesign because my blog was loosing its touch, so I wanted to re do the design once again and turn my blog community into a social community. There are several new things on this blog which I think will help with the readership and the attention span of users.

First of all, it is back to a 2 column traditional blog redesign. Prior I had a 3 column template and I thought it would be great for real estate purposes, not so well. Second, I made the home page more accessible to other content. Meaning more content is readily more accessed, giving opportunity for old posts to be discovered.

Lastly, there are several new social aspects to the sites that I have implmented…

Home page Youtube channel – this is running a custom youtube rss feed which is dynamic and auto updates itself every time I upload a new video. This gives my readership new content when I upload anything new on youtube.

Instagram Feed – I have an instagram feed which will be going live today, still working out the kinks. The purpose of this feed is to also provide entertainment while users read. Almost interact with me in a virtual way, seeing where I am and what I am doing. This will replace the flickr feed but not as a full photo album.

Read Next Plugin – I have a new plugin made for me which suggests a posts to the end user when they reach the end of the blog posts. Have you seen Mashable’s recommended blog posts slider when you reach the end of the article? Same concept.

Share Bar – I have implemented a share bar to every blog posts, taking advantage of social buttons and shares. This should help with increase of shares and likes.

Making social buttons more prominent. Again, I want this blog to be a social community, so I try to utilize these social buttons as engagement tools. I have implemented Facebook insight into my site, so I can see users who are logged into Facebook and see how they interact and who they share.

Also, one powerful aspect I am now using is the use of StudioPress Genesis Framework. This theme is actually a child theme now and I def enjoy using the Framework that I have a stamp of usage on every blog posts below the comments. The ‘Brian’ team did a great work and everyone at StudioPress.

Another attribute is you will now see a recent project on the home page, I am doing so many new things I want everyone to know what I have been up to. I wish I can literally just multiple myself, but I have a great team working with me. One I want to extend my virtual handshake to is my programmer, who has learned and turned this theme into a Genesis Child. He also developed 90% of my softwares and plugins for my marketing needs as well. So great work and props to him.

Lastly, I want to also thank Dukeo Media for allowing to use my caricature from his Who is Ian Fernando blog post. It was a great addition to the blog design and it definitely shows my personality. His blog posts definitely depicted me very well from the first time I started to where I am at today.

If there are any flows that you see within this blog let me know, let me know your thoughts on the blog as well. While Affiliate Summit is just a couple days away, I will be tweaking and adjusting some things on the blog to make sure it is perfected.

Hopefully this will be the last redesign for a couple years.

The internet is all about content and while I am in Cali still waiting for a conference to start in San Diego. I am going to write up another affiliate blog income series. This series is more for SEO people and users who want free traffic. But also is meant for readers who want to utilize the content to make the user take action.

Content is important… everyone says it is King and it is. The main factor is revolving your content around keywords so you get picked up by search engines and get rank fairly quickly. So how do you really do this? It is pretty simple. First just use Google Keyword tool and enter some actionable keywords and let google to it’s job.

You will find a bunch of keyword ideas to start writing your content on. Now the main results should give you some good keyword ideas on what to write. What I tend to do is sort by competition least to highest.

The reason why I do it this way is to write articles around the least competitive keywords. This way I can get ranked fairly quickly for a topic, especially if my content is unique. You can write the content yourself or outsource it. Either way you want your content to revolve around that keyword so you can get ranked.

In between the keyword targeted articles, I write other articles that are off topic but show some personal attention to it. Giving the user a break. Also this gives you the opportunity to catch keywords that you may rank for and start growing that keyword base with articles.

Meaning… you may rank for a new keyword which is getting volume. It is important to rank for other keywords and then build that specific keyword around actionable keywords. Let’s say you are starting to rank for “womens health iphone app” via your analytics or referring keywords.

I would start to write content around that keyword but with pre-sellable or actionable keywords such as: subscription, buy, register, etc. Creating these new keyword terms can get you volume and get you ranked to be number one really easy and very fast.

But sometimes writing or paying for unique content can be hard… so the next best thing is to automate content. I use Mass Article Control to automate a lot of my content. I simply just search for an article in any article directory such as goarticles.com copy the content and then insert it in this program.

What this program does is rewrite the content and changes certain words. You will have to read the content over to make sure it makes sense, but it beats writing content. The program changes the context of the article from 20%-60% and you can decide what article you want to use out of the thousands it generates for you.

Another program or service I use is SEO Link Vine. This service creates content for you in exchange for backlinks. This only works with WordPress sites which most of my sites are and which your sites should be as well. Users create content base on categories and sub categories. You approve the content or disapprove, so you have control of what content is being published on your site.

The only thing they require for you to do is to add their link generating a backlink for them. If you utilize the content right you can still target users to take action on your offer or product. Remember content is important especially when it comes to SEO and free traffic.

So writing your own content around actionable keywords or utilizing services or content to create your content can benefit your new blog site around your affiliate offers. I personally know writing content can be annoying and tiring.

After a long hike today in the blazing sun of California – I took a well needed nap and now I am continuing the Affiliate Blog Income series. Today will be about utilizing every keywords in your posts in your niche and turning them into affiliate links. Sometimes the hassle of doing this is time consuming because you need to think of every keyword you want to turn into keywords.

The tool I use to turn keywords into affiliate links is Ninja Affiliate Link. I think this is the best tool out there that has great features and great simplicity. I have this running my mini blog sites but not on this particular blog. Ninja affiliate links make turning keywords into income really easy.

This plugin for WordPress makes turning all keywords or phrases in your posts into affiliate links. Now that you have this plugin, the more annoying part is figuring out the keywords and phrases that you want to turn into keywords.

You really do not want to use the traditional keywords or phrases you want a whole load of keywords just incase you mention it in your post. So the easiest way to do this is simply just utilize Google Keyword Tool. It really is a 3 minute process to turn text into income.

The first thing you need to do is simply just enter 2-3 keywords that you are targeting, make it a general keyword. for example if you are doing weight loss – do “weight loss” or “diets”

…just want to keep it simple.

Once that is done it generates the list of keywords for you and all you have to do is export it to text and then copy paste the keywords into the plugin. There really isn’t anything else to it. Once that is all done simply adjust your settings within the plugin to show how many times a word should be highlighted or shown.

The best part is it only took you 5 minutes max to figure out all the phrases and keywords that need to be highlighted. Since the keyword you enter is general most of the keywords will be related and generalized as well. So this means that it works in your favor, writing as you would and not having to worry about all the typical keyword phrase someone would think of or use.

Ninja Affiliate Link is one of those plugins that you would want to always have on all your affiliate blog sites. It takes a lot of the hard work out so you do not have to do it. One thing I like about this is you can utilize it with Tracking202. So that is a definite plus.

Here are some features that are listed on the site…

Easy Affiliate Link Management – You can easily give each affiliate link an easy-to-remember name..

Flexible Link Management - Accepts every affiliate link format out there, so you don’t have to waste time with various affiliate marketing tools..

Create Professional Redirect Links - Use professional looking redirect links that let your prospects know you’re a pro marketer..

Manage Links by Groups – Too many affiliate links? Ninja Affiliate allows you to easily create different groups to manage your links..

Prevent “Affiliate Theft” – Cloak your affiliate links to prevent link theft and affiliate sabotage. No one will ever steal your hard-earned commissions again..

Insert Affiliate Links Directly – Add your affiliate links directly for your WordPress blog editor – you’ll never have to hunt for links again..

Transform Keywords to Links – Automatically turn keywords in your blog to affiliate links. You can set a limit too, so your posts don’t look like a spam blog!

Advanced Display Options – Ninja Affiliate allows you to display any text you want in your web browser’s status bar..

Use “No-Follow” Links – Control your link juice and escape punishment from Big Daddy Google with ninja precision. In fact, you can control your links any way you want to..

[source]

It has a very clean interface and it make it easier for you to manage and control all your links. You can see what link created the most clicks, group your links, etc. There is just a good amount of features that can help utilize your blog and turn it into an affiliate stream.

While in Cali I want to make sure I am continuing this Affiliate Niche Blog Series. So today I will talk about building your list and why you need to do it via your niche blog.

The importance of building your niche list is critical because you want to have a list of potential users/buyers. These are the type of people you want who will always be interested in what you have to say and will probably take action on what you provide to them.

I will talk about certain tools and site to use to create and generate the content and utilizing an auto responder, such as aweber.

There are multiple ways to grow your list. I personally have several small list but I am getting more and more aggressive into making them bigger. The big question a lot of people ask is how to grow the list, my answer is incentive them.

Give something away for free and then collect. But what do you give out for free? What I do is just create a small report and give it out for free. It is the easiest thing to do, as people are always curious on what information can help better themselves.

Where do I create the content? If you are not an expert in your niche or have time to even create the content, the easiest thing to do is copy other peoples work. They have done the work for you, so you just copy and paste. Do not copy any specific content, because of copyright infringement.

I personally use article directory sites such as ezinearticles.com to find my targeted content. I just grab about 5 articles and compile them into an ebook/style report and give it out for free. I am luring the user into grab this report that has some good content, which is just content from other users.

The important factor is you will need to keep the author and info footer in tact. You also can not change the content or title in anyway. But this is minimal risk because you already capture the user to your list, which is the main objective of this series.

Another way is to actually get other users to write unique content for you. Since I talked about creating a presence online the other day. Utilize your audience to help you create the content. With my niche blog site – that is exactly what I did. It is unique content and its from users who either are doing what your niche is about or are an expert in it.

This is powerful because you are using and utilizing other peoples time.

Once that is done – find out ways to capture your audience. I utilize the footer of each blog posts, I utilize an exit popup to capture the user leaving, I utilize the Facebook Fanpage, I also utilize users who comment and capture their info that way.

So I am aggressively trying to capture their information every way possible. A blog has multiple ways to capture your potential lead. You can even create a contest and in order to participate, they have to be part of your list because you are going to draw the contest winner from that list.

One thing to also realize is to utilize an auto responder such as aweber. Aweber is an auto responder that sends out emails to everyone on your list. It also blasts your list with any type of information that you may have or want to share.

I have been using aweber for about 2 full years and I definitely enjoy using it. They are changing a lot of their tools an interface which I wish they didn’t do, but they have great stat control and is a trusted brand in the internet marketing space.

There are others that I have tried that I didn’t really enjoy or was too confusing, I guess I am just too comfortable using aweber.

In the end you want to capture all your potential users that are coming to the site, you want to make sure you are providing quality content and information and create that relationship right away.

Recommended Tools

Aweber

Action Popup

Action Comments
