So I have been working on the road a lot lately, sometimes it gets boring working at home. So I have been going to the beach past couple weeks and using my iphone to tether to the laptop. I have been getting a lot of questions about the tether via Twitter and Facebook, so I will post it here.

The tether is very simple and very basic. Even though ATT will release a way for users to tether their iPhone, this is a temp fix or hack to get it up and running right now. NOW, this is how I did it and it should work for you. If you are going to tether all your other laptops as well, make sure they have the newest release of iTunes with iPhone compatibilities. This tether will not work on new PCs without iTunes.

Also, make sure you check your data usage via your ATT account online. You do not want to abuse this because ATT may flag you. Another thing is this will work with the new iPhone upgrade 3.0.1 (I checked my version, 09/07/09). I am unsure if this will work with prior versions.

Ok so lets get tethering…

There are some things in affiliate marketing that are kept to our own or that are talked about and we should automatically know. While at Affiliate Summit when describing to some users how I do keyword research, I usually say I keyword blast most of the time to find profitable keywords for any offer. A lot of users did not know the main concept of keyword blasting or heard of blasting keywords. It is a quick way to find a lot of profitable keywords (deep and wide). It stops you from wasting time on less searchable keywords or non converting keywords and even those keyword research services.

With paid search you want to find keywords that are being clicked on and ofcourse converts. The basis of keyword blasting is to overload an adgroup with tons of keywords, have a high bid, and let it run. This allows you to find what keywords are profitable and what keywords maybe profitable later on. Blasting keywords is a risk though and a lost. It also requires 2 Google Adwords account or using other sources of paid search, such as Yahoo. This is a good risk though, later on with your campaign you can have a successful campaign base on your keywords.

There are many ways to keyword blast a campaign base on keyword search types (broad, phrase, exact). Each provides different results and can be beneficial, you just need to analyze the data that is being given and provided to you.

With keyword blasting each search types provides different results (Google Adwords):

Broad Search:
This is a really good way to find profitable keywords fast as it only requires several general keywords. BUT you can do it with a ton of keywords as well to find more variations of a long tail. Blasting Broad search terms provides you a wider variety of keywords deep and wide! With broad you do not want to add any negative keywords, since you want to see all variations of keywords that are generated and clicked on. Again you can just blast 10 general keywords or blast a thousand variations of a specific keyword. The problem I find with broad keyword research is a general keyword can be too broad, but you can find a lot of negatives to use for your successful campaigns.

Phrase Search:
This is another way to blast keywords as you know specifically your niche, especially if it is niche specific (a niche within a niche). You want a lot of keywords in this adgroup as it is more specific. But you do not want to add negatives in this as well because you want to see the variations of the keywords outside of your phrase. For example your keyword is “basketballs shoes”, some variations maybe ‘red “basketball shoes” for summer’. So you do not want to ad negatives as you may see some clicks on new keywords you would have not think of. Problem with phrase is it may skip some variations of keywords that maybe be profitable.

Exact Search:
There is really no point to blast keywords in exact match because it is the EXACT search or keyword a user is searching for and you have already done your research to get these exact keywords. BUT if you just want to find popular exact terms, blasting a ton of keywords for phrase and see what is being clicked on can be beneficial. But you should be able to get set search terms via phrase or broad.

The basis of blasting keywords is to quickly throw a bunch of keywords at the search engines and see what triggers your ads base on clicks. From this you can elaborate more on your keywords and find keywords you would not have thought of while doing your keyword research. Keyword research is time consuming, why not risk some money and find what keywords are being clicked on and if some convert then either move it to an adgroup with exact or phrase.

There are users that use Yahoo Search Marketing to blast their keywords but YSM has a keyword limit – but you can have multiple accounts with YSM. If you do it with Google you will need 2 Adwords account just because you want a good standing Adwords account. I haven’t blasted with MSN before but if you have let us know.

Looking at the data

There are many ways to look at the blasted data and how to even re blast your newly found keywords. But it depends on how you are going to blast your keywords from the start. There are ways to bid or standard ways to bid. A lot of the data that is being proposed to you after blasting can benefit you a lot with your campaign. I will maybe create a series on keyword blasting, since I blast differently base on offers. In general the best way to blast is either broad or phraase, both (1 campaign 2 adgroups), or all three! In the end it is how you are looking at that data and how you are going to separate your newly found keywords.

Do you blast keywords, if so how do you look at your data?

Friday I logged into a very old forum that I rarely go into but I was very active in when I was just starting in the internet marketing genre. I had lots of private messages and threads that I have not visited in over 4 months. What I thought I would do was a questions and answer thread, just because I was gone from the forum and wanted to give something back for my absence. Below you will find questions ask by members of the Young Entrepreneur forum and of course my experienced answers.

Sorry for not editing my answers, just in case I misspelled or have poor grammar.

Best affiliate sites?

There are multitudes of affiliate sites and most of them tend to offer the same offer, varying payouts. You also want to see what the network can offer you besides exclusive offers and high payouts. Is the communication there and is your affiliate manager willing to help you? Are you comfortable with their interface and layout? There are just numerous questions you want to ask yourself. I personally find NeverBlueAds and Azoogle Ads work best for me. I recently started with Motive Interactive and CPA Storm – just because their account managers are great people to talk too, I like communication in a network.

Hi

I am thinking about starting my own business what would I need to do first????

First find out what you enjoy doing. This is a very important factor when trying to market/make money online. If you do not enjoy what you are doing you will not put out your heart in your business. Find a model with your idea. Research the market, see if it is viable and can be done with your finances if you are doing it by yourself. Create and brainstorm your idea making sure your idea and business model do not collide. Having a strong foundation will give you more of a benefit in the long run.

Most importantly read read read read!

making the decision on what/who’s product to sell: affiliate, order my own, make my own

Ordering your own product, I personally do not think is the most beneficial. The reason for this is because someone probably already has it and is marketing it much better than you, they already have a step up on you by simply purchasing a product to resell. I say be unique and have your own product.

Having your own product will be more of a benefit to you because you are the only one out there that has it and you know people want it (assuming you did the research). Having your own product or services easily seperates you from the competition and crowd.

Affiliate products will depend on the market and what time of year it is. Also it also depends on what you like to promote and what you will put your heart in promoting. Affiliate marketing is great since you do not need an inventory, you just promote someone else’s products and services and get a cut. Choosing a product to promote can be hard since you will have to think about a lot of things, brand, market value, the market need, seasonal item, etc.

Are all the internet marketers are liars?

I bolded this one because it is a controversial question and it is base on the marketer themselves. Personally I am not a liar which is why I have this blog to show my own experiences. But there are marketers out there that will ‘fake it to make it’ which is a bad business model but does work. More so marketers out there are trying to make the most money in as little time as possible, so they take short cuts, which is another bad reason we marketers have a bad reputation.

This question is really base on the individual marketer and their product that they are selling/promoting. It is more of a moral to that marketer/entrepreneur or maybe even ego. But I have met a lot of trust worthy and honest marketers that make their income online. I would rather associate with these types than those that want to make a quick dollar.

Do you see value in generice traffic from sites like Bux Sense

There has been a study on this by a well known marketer, you can view the forum thread here and see his results. These types of traffic are not properly done and are just thrown in front of a user. By means of overlay popups, pop unders, pop overs, etc – these service uses these tactics to give you the traffic. Is it healthy and good traffic I say no. Just because it does not convert. It just really annoys the user surfing the web.

My question is

What if you had (or was capable of producing) a perfect unique product one that has never been marketed, something that is unique and appeals to a very specific tight niche group (market easillly identified) and potentially very profitable…but you didn’t feel competitant to properly handle the marketing…

What would be the more practical way for me to waste my time… market myself or, find someone to market for me?

The best answer to this is get someone to market it, knowing if you have the money andknowing you will get a good return. If it is unique then it can be safe to say to market it. BUT I would test the market by marketing it my self first. This way you can have a feel of what is happening and see if your product/service is optimal to market at this specific time of year. Make sure you do the research – it is what the market demands. Making or providing a service does not mean it will be successful. Make sure to get in contact with people who are already successful and ask their opnions before pouring your financial into a marketing agency. But having someone else market or buying the targeted traffic (PPC) can be beneficial.

How do I get to first page on google – I have tried advertising but it doesnt seem to be working – I heard that you should link your ad to your articles – is that true – I have been using USfreeads.

There are numerous ways to get in first for Google. Since this is very general and open -I suggest reading some SEO tactics such as backlinks and keyword density. Getting first on Google is not that hard as long as you have a keyword that is not very competitive. I have blog posts that come up first or appear on the first page of Google for specific targeted keywords. Learn the foundation of SEO and have a basic understanding of SERP and you can easily be first on Google for your targeted keyword.

As you know most of my websites are powered by Wordpress. I look at Wordpress as a content management system and not a blog platform. A lot of readers tend to view Wordpress as a blog platform and not a CMS platform. I have written several topics on Wordpress, like choosing CMS platforms and a list of plugins I use for my blog. Wordpress has help me create several niche websites which most run on automatic and they are not scrapers! The sites I create with Wordpress are merely several page websites. The reason I use Wordpress over others is because its simplicity and versatile plugins.

Recently, Caroline Middlebrook has contacted me on her new ebook titled “How to Develop Money-Making Niche Sites with WordPress.” I had the chance to go and look over this free ebook and found it to be really informative! There are multiple blog ebooks out there that are being sold for $27 to $97! Caroline decided to beat the market by providing a really informative ebook about Wordpress and how you can earn money from them. The best part about this ebook is it is ready for direct download which means you do not need to provide your email or tell any of your friends. Just wish it had some type of affiliate system tied to it =P.

The ebook is 41 pages long and these are the major sections:

Chapter 1: Getting and Installing WordPress

Chapter 2: Basic WordPress Administration. 10

Chapter 3: Installing a New Theme. 13

Chapter 4: Setting up Adsense On Your Site. 16

Chapter 5: WordPress Plugins. 20

Chapter 6: Creating Your Site Content

Chapter 7: Final Thoughts

Appendix 1: Uploading Using FTP.. 33

Appendix 2: External Resources

Overviewing the ebook, Caroline’s writing is very ‘teachful’ and informative, everything is step by step with images and context to help you along the way. I was kind of surprise to see this ebook is being provided for direct download and not use for growing her list or even an up sell. The ebook is very informative, targeting the newbies of blogosphere.

Conclusion, this informative ebook is geared towards on creating a blog from downloading to putting and using plugins to adding Adsense for income. There are multiple ebooks out there that will teach you the same thing but for a price and several upsales. Caroline decides to beat everyone by giving it to you for free!

What Kind of Niche Websites to Create:

Fan Base Web Blog: These specific sites are very popular. If you watch the Google Trends, you can see most searches are names on a per day basis or per hour basis. Everyone likes gossip for some reason, they want to know what it is a popular person is doing stupidly wrong or want to know whose baby is whose. These specific type of blogs are mostly opinionated tabloids and short stories. Also most of these blogs are also image and video driven. Since web 2.0 is the new wave on the internet, since we are getting lazy day by day. With everyone wanting to know what goes on in someone else lives is kind of strange to me, but they want to know everything about a celebrity or team player. These sites generate a great fan base of readers just wanting to know what kind of shoe the star wore 2 days ago.

Affiliate/Product Review Web Blog: Blogs are known to have authority no matter what your rank on the internet. It seems readers are geared to trust opinionated answers than reading facts. With a blog almost guaranteed to have good authority over someone else’s good content, means affiliate reviews are being done on blogs rather than creating the standard sales landing page. A blog shows interaction than a place white box with text in it. This is a reason why blog reviews or review me on blogs do better than traditional redirects or simple landing pages. The interaction of a blog and the authority it already deemed as being trustworthy.

Adsense Driven Blog: Adsense is the most popular thing to put on a blog, the reason for this is because Adsense is simple. Grab the copy and paste code and slap it on your template, boom you got a money making website. But there is more to just slapping the Google code. You will need to understand banner placement and color creations to make sure you get a high click through rate. Adsense is great for beginners but to really see high potential there has to be other monetization interacting with Adsense. What a lot of users do is scrap websites to give them content while the Adsense code generates income for them, I HATE THESE TYPES OF BLOGS!

How To Websites or Blog: Talk about FireFox or Macintosh or even how to create videos from your camcorders. These help websites are very popular as well because it teaches and provide detailed information on ‘how to’ do something. These are also very search engine friendly because of very unique content. So you know how to install windows on your PC and make it spyware free but what about creating a transparent screen for your laptop? The uniqueness of ‘How To’ can become very viral in such a short amount of time. Depending on the uniqueness of the topic and the ease of reading the text and content. Informative “how” websites are great to build just making sure you have a lot of unique content to write! I mean how unique or how many topics can you write about a marble counting machine?

Social Networking/Membership Blogs: These types of websites are always springing up, but using a blog platform such as Wordpress can make life easier, users can simply just sign up and start writing for you. It can be content, short stories, small comments, etc. Or it can be a private blog for registered users only. These blogs have higher authority than traditional blogs because it is seen as “secret content.” I am not sure if that is the case but perception does mean a lot on the internet. Why do you think ebooks from gurus are seen as potential wealth secrets, because gurus have authority and are perceived as holding back secrets.

There are other ways to use the power of Wordpress to your advantage, I currently am creating a new website with the use of Wordpress to create an auto generated traffic/income web log. It will consists 2 of the 5 topics list above.

So I got an email the other day asking about my Scarface picture frame and I decided to talk about it and write something about it, why not. A reader asked me about when I got the Scarface picture that I was hanging in the back of my office, he noticed it in one of my videos and even left a comment on YouTube.

So to answer the question I always had the Scarface picture but I was super lazy to hang it up. I recently hung it up sometime maybe; I want to say a month ago? Well not it is hung up and I like it right in my home office, it fits my environment.

Besides just having a Scarface picture frame I also had a custom air brush shirt done. This shirt was made by one of my friends who owns an air brush shop. He does my shoes, shirts, button ups, fitted hats, etc. Anything you can write on he can design anything on it. He is a great artist who is really good with the air paint.

He designed it with Spongebob, because Spongebob is straight gangster. He designed the world and Spongebob with great accuracy. I can say he did real great job on my custom T-Shirt. I might think he should design one for Affiliate Summit… hmmm…

So to answer one of my reader’s questions about my Scarface picture, I recently hung it up when I had time. I always had the picture which was sitting in my closet and decided to just hang it one day.

Ever since the guest post on ShoeMoney, I have been getting emails on how to get targeted traffic from Craigslist without being flagged or a deeper explanation. It seems there are issues with readers that maybe didn’t understand my post or maybe it was not as descriptive enough, readers were emailing me on how to’s instead of testing or trying the technique themselves to figure it out. Craigslist is not that hard to figure out or use.

Also there seemed to be some readers out there that do not want to do any other work or research on their own. The part about marketing is testing and failing, what works and what doesn’t. Prior to succeeding on getting all my listings on Craigslist was me failing at getting listed.

After several failed attempts I found a way that worked and still works, but it is a simple concept. Well enough of my rambles, since I didn’t email everyone back or just stopped emailing. I decided to go ahead and make a video of what I did. It is a 5 minute tutorial that works and gets listed for everyone to see.

It has been a month since my revolutionary facelift and I have been getting emails about how my other designs looked like. So I decided to take the time to go back in time and capture all the design templates. You will see I went through 3 FaceLifts! Ouch! I must be an ugly dude!

But below you will see screen shots of how my website design was and compare it to now, I have upgraded a lot. For the readers that have asked me prior, I have directed you to the templates I was using. Below are the actual designs with some modifications to the template. Also, the first 2 templates, I was using a different CMS system, actually it was an article directory system which is being used on my Article Directory website.

When I have finally switched to Wordpress you can see the difference in design. Also you will notice all 3 prior designs are all 3 column templates. I like 3 column templates for many reasons. Its more organized, neat, and short. I can put a lot of information within the 3 columns and customize it to my needs.

3 column templates is very useful when creating a good navigation for your readers. Readers want to be able to navigate easily and find something they want to read more readily than scrolling or doing a CTRL + F. Also the most important content should be viewed from a left to right to perception. Most important content is on the left moving to the least important on the right. I discuss this in a report which you can grab for free, by just subscribing to Ian Fernando on the homepage.

Well with that all said I have traveled back in time and have found old designs of my templates and here they are for your viewing pleasure. See how much I have grown! I have used the WayBackMachine to figure out my younger age.

I was just informed by a fellow reader by the name of Yehuda Berlinger about Text Links Ads are doing away from TinyUrl. Yehuda has left a comment on my post about the response I received from TLA. She says TLA is working on a better solution and we do not have to change our affiliate links!

This is causing so much confusion among bloggers. It has caused some confusion to me as well that I decided to confirm this as well. I emailed Brock again and asked if this is so. He stated it is, saying it was released late last week. Here is my email and Brock’s response:

Ian, sorry this was just released late last week. Jonathan is correct.
Just hold tight and we will have something else available in about a week or so.

Jonathan told my reader that you will be switching yet again away from TinyUrl to another form of redirection. Is this so? Jonathan simply stated:

“We are working on a better solution and will have it available next week. You do not need to make any changes.”

At this time I would like to know what is going on and why are we switching away from TinyUrl once you have told your users about switching. Also if this is so – why has not a mass email been sent to us about this new change?

We encourage you to update your affiliate links using the > > following:

You know the rest of the email. If this is so why has Text Link Ad not notify us of this change? We as affiliate marketers are probably switching our TLA links right now without knowing TLA is sending another email about another change.

What happens if affiliate marketers are changing ALL their pages and affiliate links on every page they have, later to find out that they need to change it again! I personally find this an issue. I personally only have to change one file in my redirect script and all my links are fixed, but for the others out there that do not use redirect scripts – which maybe a good percentage out there. These affiliate marketers are probably going have to change thier links once more and they will be angered.

Text Link Ads needs to really think about this and start notifying their users of such sudden changes as it can affect ALOT of us.

Thanks Again to Yehuda! Great Job!

I received an email from Kirenia author of a blog called What I Blog For. She has sent me an email asking what her blog is about: “what I blog for.” Here is the main question asked “I am writing a blog about what bloggers are blogging for, and I would like you to tell me what are you blogging for.”

I created her a small simple email on what I blog for. I gave her the following:

For Fun

For Interest

For making mistakes

Discovering new factors of blogging

Testing Get Rich Schemes

Case Studies

Making Money online via Blogging

Networking

Expressing my thoughts

My opinions

The great part about her blog is she gives somewhat of a mini review about my site on her blog. On her blog she even asks a second set of question in regards to my answer:

How much reasons! Next time I am going to ask “Is there a reason why you wouldn’t blog?”

Well, I am a nice guy and I will answer her question she has on her post, so here are my reason why I wouldn’t blog.

Lack of interest

no benefits

I think that is it. I would not blog if I am not interested in a topic or niche. I write everyday and I find something interesting to write. I also will not blog if there are no benefits. Benefits can be networking, friends, exchange of information, a challenge etc. I need to benefit from my blog. With this blog I benefit from readers, questions, exchange of information, etc.

Kirenia’s blog is very unique because other bloggers have sent her answers to her simple question: What do you blog for? Currently she wants to blog for a nice dinner, which the estimated cost is $174. She has her current stats on the side of her website showing us how close she is to achieving her goal.

Her simple question: What do you blog for, I think I would consider her question a niche because she has attacked bloggers and asks a simple question and <strike>bloggers</strike> authors respond.

But back to Kirenia question, what I blog for. The top 10 reason listed above are my main reasons why I blog. But there is a more important reason why you should blog and you may have heard it around the blogosphere. It’s called Bloggers Unite.

What is it?

On September 27th, join thousands of bloggers around the world in BlogCatalog’s Blogging for a Great Cause Challenge.

Bloggers Against Abuse
September 27th, 2007

The Outcome we are after is to be part of the largest group of bloggers to ever blog about an important cause, all on the same day.

Please Read More Here on the Official BlogCatalog Blog

There is another Bloggers Unite on October 15th called Blog Action Day.

What is it?

On October 15th, bloggers around the web will unite to put a single important issue on everyone’s mind – the environment. Every blogger will post about the environment in their own way and relating to their own topic. Our aim is to get everyone talking towards a better future.

Blog Action Day is about MASS participation. That means we need you! Read More Here. View their promo video below:

So Kirenia brought up a great question to me on what I blog for and in the next couple weeks, what we need to start to blog for. If you want to let Kirenia know what you blog for you can contact her via her contact form. Kirenia here is another reason “What I Blog For…”

I Blog for a Good Cause.

Someone emailed me about my content asking it was duplicated among multiple sites. He asked if it was my content and or if I have taken it off another website without crediting. When I did some research it seemed it was snippets of PLR content that I have within some of my post. In response to this I explained to him about Private Label Rights and how I use it with my blog. Here is a lengthy – detailed version of what I wrote back to him.

Private Label Rights are a powerful tool or asset to use, especially when blogging. There are times where I go blank and do not know what to write. When this happens I open up my PLR folder and see what I can write about. The only difference is I use PLR in a different way than others.

A lot of authors will just post the PLR article with minor or no adjustments. This isn’t good because its not unique and it is probably all over the internet. If it is all over the internet, then you site will not be indexed right and not be ranked properly within SERP.

Let us get an introduction to what PLR (Private Label Rights) are and how they are beneficial.

PLR are articles, software, ebooks etc that you can say is your own, even though you did not make it or is the original author of the product. You can even make any changes that you want, put your own name on it, sell it for profit or sell basic or master resell rights to the product. It is basically yours to do with as you please but you didn’t have to spend hours creating it.

The benefits of it are you do not have to do anything except edit and call it your own. The problem is users are just copying and pasting the PLR products, especially articles onto their blog or site. I find that this downgrades your brand and your blog, showing that there is no interest in creating a more unique article or post.

Here is a small list of what you can do with PLRs:

it can be edited

Add your name as the author

Break the content down or extract content

use it on your site or blog

sold to your readers

you can add resale rights to it (master, royalty, etc)

I use PLR articles sometimes it is rare that I will use it, but at times of word loss or no ideas I turn to the powerful PLR articles that I have. When I started my new blog I wrote a post about content creation and use PLRs. PLRs helped me when I started my second blog, I have content on there which people wanted to read. But, I did not use the FULL PLR; instead I use parts of it and put my own thinking to it.

Private Label Right Articles are only beneficial if you add your own thought and thinking process to it. Do not use the WHOLE PLR and post it because it is just a repeat of what thousands of other sites are doing out there. It’s not unique and Google SERPs hate it.

How to Use PLR Articles for Blogging

While there are some people out there that use PLRs for creating reports and ebooks, I tend to use PLRs for blogging. I only use PLR articles when I do not have anything to write. Below is what I tend to do when I do not have anything or can’t think of what to write, I turn to my PLRs.

If you are blogging, use only a couple sentences or a max of 2 paragraphs and work around it. To get me to start writing, I will read the whole article and then either use the introduction paragraph so I can run with the topic or use some of the middle paragraphs and add to my own writing to it. I will not use the whole article and post it to the public, its a guarantee that you will find that whole article on another website or even several thousand website. You do not want to be part of that.

Why do this? Well because you do not want someone else’s style ruining your blog. You also do not want to just be done posting within 2 minutes, add you own unique style to it, maybe even add more to the PLR.

Example:
You can be a NEW blogger and you decide to use a PLR article and just post it, then you started to write your own. The PLR article might have been written with expertise while your writing style is just mediocre. It ruins your blog, since readers may think you are a writing expert when in reality you are not. (this is just an example)

But, you need to learn how to use PLRs and take advantage of them. I take advantage of them by simple working around it as I have stated. I write in my own words around the topic with maybe a direct source from the body or introduction. No one can blame me that I have used their content because it’s my content, its a PLR!

Working around the PLR topic benefits you since you are creating a unique writing style around a topic you may not know but inputting your own thoughts of what maybe right or wrong. Writing around a PLR can even get you ranked higher within the SERPs, since its content search engines have seen but is altered.

I believe when writing you need to just have your own style. Your own style describes you as it’s your personality, your attitude, your views. You blog because you want to share your views about a specific topic or specific article you have read etc. With PLR articles, you can have a good topic with your own views.

Taking parts of sentences and turning it into a paragraph or taking paragraphs and creating whole articles! Private Label Rights is very powerful when you can take advantage of it and use it properly. Just posting the PLR in your blog just degrade it in my opinion. If you have nothing to write about grab some private label articles and extract some content and write around that topic.

By the way this post has no PLR content in it.
