An Angry Contestant in Nebraska

As you know I am on a specific show and I have my opinions on the show. I just posted up a video and I have a lot of serious issues with the show. You probably can read more specifics from Paul at UberAffiliate as he has big opinions about the show and I will approve it. But basically being on a reality show with a very low budget and everything being endorsed will not run very well, you are relying on other peoples money. OPM is a big part in marketing but this is something big, you will have t risk some money.
I came into this show to test my skills against other marketers and affiliates, I was surprise by some of the contestants. John Chow also agrees with my opinions as you can see from his post. John also points to server issues as you can tell from his post:
Well, it doesn’t matter how big your bandwidth is. Unless you’re Google or Microsoft, you’re not going to be able to stream an 800MB file. Anyone logging onto to the TAC site to watch the show was greeted by a waiting to buffer notice.
But there are several aspects of the show I do not like at all or did know about the show:
- Business Model - WOW is all I have to say. Thor is so much smarter than this and I was surprised when I first heard the concept, which is to “make as much money as you can.” That is it, there is not rules on that just make as much money as you can. Also we had to use our own money to try to make money. Why would I risk my money to help make the show money! It would have been better if our gurus taught us something and we run with it, like a ‘challenge’. I came into the challenge, assuming it would be a real reality show, given a challenge and to bank on that challenge. The challenge was literally “make as much money as you can in 24 hours.”
- Is it about learning? - Right now I can not say a lot of things but from the first episode, you do not learn anything. We had a couple things going and so did ShoeMoney, but it was not posted on the videos.
- Location - Nebraska is an ok place, definitely not my atmosphere. I had feelings of being shot or lynched. Some food were strange, like a Runza - which can only be compared to a microwavable White Castle. Nebraska has it’s highlights, but the night life sucks. Everything closes at about 12:30 and the lights are shut. I mean I almost got into a damn fight out here!

The chicken fingers are not that bad.
That is too bad. Wish it would have worked out better. MAYBE (just maybe) this show or other shows that try to make an internet reality show will learn from it.
that sucks ian, hopefully they get there shit together and save the show because right now its a joke.
TAC episode 3 spoiler. In case you weren’t sure, you were voted off and then let back on. Just like they did with the other dude.
Preach on Brotha, sorry this TAC thing sucks so bad.
you know i’m not really into affiliate marketing or any of that, but i do love a good reality show. i’d rather watch a rock of love/flavor of love/flavor of love charm school/shot at love/search for the next pusssycat doll/so you think you can dance hybrid show hosted by ryan seacrest than this garbage. its virtually unwatchable. the editing is horrid, the sound sucks, and there is a proflowers or local jewelry store ad every 2 minutes.
they should just save face and end it now.
Hey Ian, just go pawn the ring at the local pawn shop for some cash, lol. No rule right?
You are right what you say Ian, maybe you should walk?
That would gain you much more exposure & respect than staying on that poor excuse for a reality show.
dayam my dog! crazy stuff. i seriously thought this show was going to be like Donald Trumps “The Apprentice” and be on NBC next year….
NOT!
great video man & keeping it real as usual!
you rock homie!
alejandro
bad bad..from video editing to sound to the whole concept… joel should laught now….
Best advice let us see what people are doing to make money because right now we see nothing at all….
TAC is going no where they must do something….
Fing a, that was a good decision to leave. There is no big pay off to stay on the show and you’ll make more money not spending it on that disorganized mess.
Sorry though that you wasted the time and travel to have to deal with that.

[...] The way it is now, it is a complete disaster, I fully agree with Ian Fernando’s comments here. I would have liked to see Ian win the challenge, but really the rules are total garbage, anybody [...]
Damn, we needed you to stay in Nebraska and hold it down for the brothas. Method Man in Belly style.
Ian, I am sorry, but in all honesty were you really expecting this to be anything other then a reality show? And I don’t understand what you mean when you state that the Top affiliate Challenge isn’t a good business model, what are you on about? This isn’t supposed to be a business model, it’s supposed to be a entertainment show.
Also, before you signed up for this, didn’t you already know you would have to spend your own money? and that the budget wasn’t up there?

there were no rules and concept of the show that were posted or emailed to us. I thought a challenge would be similar to NIM and would be far better, it should not be make as much money in 24 hours. TAC is a business, Thor wants to do this every year and every season, so it is a business. structure is important as well as concept, even the gurus did not even know the break down of the show and how it will portray
@Pedro Sttau - Every reality TV show has some sort of a business model.
The state of the show right now is organized chaos.
Ian, man.
What were you expecting? instead of lynching everyone because you have a bad attitude, why don’t you make some recommendations that’ll correct the problem? It’s easy to sit back and complain, the challenge is to overcome and outshine. And a Jersey boy in Nebraska is like a Hawiian in Alaska. Sure you can fit in if you want to, but it ain’t home. Ease up, and try to make something out of it.
> me
i have thrown ideas back at the producers and to thor. I am not complaining nor am I agreeing with certain things, but a lot have been changed from the first couple episodes which is great. Also I am leveraging connections and networking, so I am not leaving without any loss, making the most of it
1st couple episodes were a joke glad to see that your making the most of it
I see what you mean Ian, but the business model of a show of this nature is based on entertainment, weather it’s fun or not, and as far as I’m concerned it’s done that brilliantly, specially taking into consideration the budget limitations.
I’m also a bit shocked about people “tagging” the shame as a joke. I don’t know what kind of television you are used to watching, but the show’s structure isn’t too different from any regular Reality show that we see out there, and with the exception of a couple of production problems, the quality as improved dramatically.
Don’t get me wrong, under normal circumstances I’m not a fan of Reality shows, but having the opportunity to see John Chow and Ken MCarthur on a different “environment” competing against each other is more then worth it.
I learned that connection are very important. I guess all those conferences are worth something.

As I mentioned on Zac Johnson’s blog: WTF?!?!?!?!
Unfortunately, It was disappointing!
Hahaha, love it Ian!
This is just what we were talking about on AIM the other day. The business concept is pretty awkward indeed like you mentioned, and it’s definitely not fun to sit down and watch a video that takes 10 times longer to load than to watch.
Nebraska is a pretty poor place to host a competition, especially if you are going to lose your own money. Why they can’t give you a budget is beyond me, that’s very disappointing.
You should walk man, seriously.
Well said Ian. I feel the same way just watching it. I keep asking where is the structure to this? What are the rules? How are the contestants making money? I could forgive the editing and production value if there was some kind of interesting and entertaining challenge going on.
Damn man … I thought this would be a little better show. Joel Comm all I have to say is Sigh…
i thought this would be a LOT better show. knowing little to nothing about affiliate marketing, i thought i would learn some tips and tricks of the trade. instead what did i learn? that nebraska has some shit ass local jewelry store, and that toolbarn.com has some drill bit set that no one wants. kudos to you for dipping out with honor. see you back in dirty jerz. lets hope van douche gets voted off soon.
Ian,
Why was the show hosted in Nebraska? Was it because that’s where Shoemoney lives? He didn’t want to travel?
I watched a bit of the show and I gotta agree with you on this. If I look back at any reality show that has been on TV that I can remember, contestants never had to use their money out of their own pocket to try and win a competition. Obviously with this said.. the person starting with the most resources is bound to win. The show could be done differently. Nebraska doesn’t look too bad though… I live in Montreal, Canada and its pretty crazy over here. Nebraska would be a change of pace
Mang, i was expecting to WHOLE hell of a lot of better production, branding, high impact, and quality. Its poor video, video editing, kind of remind me of being back in school watching old PBS learning specials from the 1980’s.
Also I did not understand why the episodes where all about sitting down and talkin in front of a camera or talkin in a conference room, I started sleeping on it. Mang! But TheNextInternetMillionaire was the SH*&T, Tru
Ps. The budget for the show was about…… $3,000! lol
Perhaps you can lead the next project and layout the plan in advance. I agree with you that you should not have to put any of YOUR money on this. Hmm….. I would like to know if you pursue this will you lead this time?
You have learned a lot in this experience. I learned your a Go Getter. $$$
I agree, TAC was kind of boring, and Johnathan Van Clute already knows everything and I knew he was gonna win.
Anyways, I hope they have a better season next year.
