The past 2 days I was at adtech NY. This is one of the other shows I recommend marketers to go to. It is a digital marketing conference which has more of a business savy feel to it. This is where a lot of affiliates come to find new traffic sources, advertisers, merchants, etc. It is a show that is dedicated to growing and more importantly expanding your online business.

I arrived on Tuesday and missed the show floor completely. So I met up with some NJ affiliates at the LimeLight CRM private gathering. My good friend which I consider a mentor to my growing business, Rich Gorman has put together a great get together of top players in the industry. It consisted of big advertisers, biz opp players, merchants, data validation services, etc. I was in awe at the type of quality users that were there and I leverage every minute of it, making great connections.

Even meeting the players of SiteScout ad network. Great and fun guys. I want to thank Rich for having me be part of this private gathering.

I then met up with Kris Trujillo of XRev Media and we had dinner with his team and other players. The dinner was amazing, good food and good company. We simply talked and discussed business and what I am doing and even exchanged ideas. Kris is another great person to just be in contact with, teaching everyone everything.

The next day, yesterday, I went a bit early and walked the show floor. I met up with more NJ affiliates and Ad Hustler at the show. I did a quick walk around, stop at certain booths and talked to people that I knew or stopped me. The show definitely looks like it grew compared to last year but it was good to be on the floor to see what new technology and what companies are up to.

I even went to the last keynote of the day. The speaker was Christian Oestlien. He mainly talked about the innovation of social media and gave out some stats about Google+. He gave examples, showed video clips, gave really amazing stats, and even some features I didn’t know about.

The only issue was when it came to Q&A, he didn’t answer anyones’ questions directly. He simply just walked around the questions and filled it with fillers. There was no direct answer, I felt anyways – then again that is Google.

After the keynote, I met up with Max from WhatRunsWhere and had dinner with several other affiliates such as Rohail, Gabriel, and Heavy T. We went to China Grill which was an asian fusion dinner. Amazing good food and a lot of food. I didn’t know it was family style and everyone got their own entree, so the table was filled with massive amounts of food. But we all took care of that and again want to thank WhatRunsWhere for having me at the dinner.

After dinner, we started planning what parties to go to. Wednesday was the day with the most parties – literally there was a list of 15 parties and gatherings I believe. I decided to go to 2 of the 15. I went and headed out to Xposure 2011 at Terminal 5, it was still pretty early so I left and headed out to Clickbooth’s party. There, met up with some great friends and people at the company. It was a fun entertaining night. They had a fire lady in the middle of the middle of the dance floor spitting fire!

I def have a good history with Clickbooth and they have always taken care of me.

After Clickbooth, Heavy T and I headed back to Xposure just in time to catch Naughty by Nature on stage. They gave their RIP to Heavy D as well, respect. The event was huge. They had several performers come on stage prior to Naughty by Nature, I just went around met up with with affiliates, HasOffers, advertisers, past friends, etc. This event was the biggest I think, I mean they gave a concert to affiliates!

Naughty by Nature also did a great job performing on stage. A great show with great people!

ad tech is such a great event, just catching up with everyone in the industry is beneficial. I even got great feedback about Offer Snitch, my affiliate link monitoring platform. I got users asking me questions about it and even new users and networks wanting to know more information. I was proud about that.

Overall the show is great and if you are a growing affiliate, you definitely want to check out ad tech, it gives you a vast overview of what you are definitely missing in the online industry and not just affiliate marketing. I have talked about expanding several times on this blog prior and I even mentioned it last year as well. Growing is an essential part of business as well as curiosity of the other aspects of online marketing. There is a lot of money to be made online, so many ventures, ideas, and paths you can take. It is about meeting the right connections and these shows are the best ways to do so.

I got back a day earlier than my planned San Francisco trip. The reason was because I was hella tired from the show. Also everything seemed a bit different. Ad tech was held at Moscone West building and not the Moscone Center. The Moscone West had 3 floors dedicated to adtech, where as in the past it was just 1 huge floor at the Moscone center.

I arrived Sunday and I hanged out with Wes Mahler and Brian Evans most of the day until the mastermind dinner. THe dinner was a great meeting event with some big names in it. Monday at the show, I just didn’t go. I went and met up with Kevin and we all went and toured Nappa Valley. Tuesday, I did go to the show and had meetings in the morning back to back. I found some great traffic sources and also talked to some users who owned CRM, in the process of taking on the advertiser world!

For adtech itself it seemed smaller, there are 3 floors. The bottom 2 were exhibit halls and the top 3rd was where all the speakers, keynotes, sessions, beer garden etc is located. So it was just walking around was tiring in itself. For me I was tired after Sunday because I went hard and experience a HangOver movie effect the following day.

The show itself is like any other trade show, a bunch of vendors and people that don’t know what they are talking about when you start to talk about real numbers. You also see the repeated booths as well. The best meetings I had was the ones away from the booths and with vendors that didn’t have booths. It seemed they were more into the meeting and their projects than the show.

I also went out and soft launch a new software which will be a game changer for the industry as well. I go through these issues all the time and I decided why not share my tools with everyone. So that went very well actually, more ideas that I expected as well. I met up with friends especially with HasOffers, GetAds, adKnowledge, Jonathan Volk, Dustin ,people from dk’s ThinkTank, Jim Kukral, etc.

It is always great talking to friends and how they are growing and how they are moving around with their business.

Other than that the show was great, but slower than normal. I didn’t see much affiliates at this show, nor did I see much advertisers as well. It was weird NOT to see some people that I thought would be going not show up. But everyone grows, expands, and diversify their business.

As for the parties, I attended the Affiliate Marketer’s Ball and it turned out to be a very planned out event. At Affiliate Summit West was the first Marketers’ Ball and I guess the venue was too big because there was a ton of empty space. At adtech, it was a good sized club and everyone mixed and mingled more than the Marketer’s Ball at Summit.

We then went to 2 other parties and called it a night after, I was tired! The next day, Wednesday, I just hanged around met with some people and that was it. I decided around early afternoon I wanted to go home. My planned trip to be home is actually today, arriving at 7pm EST. I was just so tired from Sunday, Nappa Valley, and Tuesday meetings – I wanted to just go home.

So I just went to the airport to get it all situated and luckily I got the next flight out of San Francisco back to Jersey! The flight was torture, just because I haven’t worked out in 4 days, my legs started to ‘jump’. Anyways, adtech was good the meetings and networking I did was amazing.

The video I have is a mix of the show and my trip to Nappa Valley.

The past 2 days was Ad-Tech. I honestly was not going to attend this years ad tech west in San Francisco just because I didn’t want to really go. But since I was in Cali for a while, I decided to go ahead and go. This years show was really really good because there is a lot of traffic sources and venues for marketers to venture into.

I decided to just go since I am in the area and I met up with a lot of new people and met with some of my online readers. I snaked the whole show twice and found some great new traffic sources that I will start testing or soon start testing. I met up with some great people right away and turned out to be really good people.

I met up with some great readers of the blog as well as past internet marketing friends such as Joel Comm. I flew in Tuesday and chilled with some people prior to heading to ad tech. I then started snaking the show and talked to a lot of people. During most of the day I was at ad tech I just had beers all day at the beer garden and while walking the floor.

I met up with Dustin, Bryn, Silver, AffBuzz, Jonathan Volk, Charles Ngo, Morgan, Nick Mattern, etc. It was great seeing these guys. I also decided to have lunch and celebrate the 1st year anniversary of AffBuzz. Everyone that reads AffBuzz was there.

It definitely was fun. I had the chance to talk to a couple people from the Irvine meetup and talked to Volk about ideas and marketing in general. After the celebration I headed back to the conference and walked the whole thing again.

The show was a good and great hit. One aspect I did not like was un-knowledgeable people at the booths. I think they prey on stupid and naive users. Even one of the biggest platforms didn’t know what they were talking about. I walked to the Facebook booth and asked about quality issues and how they do quality scoring…

The reason is because I got a daily spending limit on Facebook ads.

I asked away at the Facebook booth, but this girl did not understand what I was asking. I want to work with them and better understand their QS platform and how it is being judge besides the obvious (CTR, Spending, Voting, etc). The girl didn’t understand or even had a clue they had a user base voting system… sighs…

Well anyways that night the parties are all the talk by the end of the show floor. Everyone basically had their mind set either at the PPC.bz/EWA party and the Clickbooth party. I went to PPC.bz first and chilt there and had a great conversation with Pulse360. I met up with Ryan Eagle and Barman at the party as well as other affiliates in the industry.

After the PPC.bz party I went off to hit up Clickbooth’s party. I met up with old friends from past conferences and just hanged out for a little bit. After the last drink of the night I decided to call it quits. I been drinking all day during the conference and I was beat. I literally just walked back and took a cab back.

The next day…

I simply just met up with people I needed to meet up with and then hanged around the show floor. I found a cool twitter analytics system called Tap11 and got more information on Twitter advertising called 140Proof. I do not know why but social traffic and twitter stuff amazes me, since its conversational data that is being researched.

I really didn’t do much I was trying to recover from last night. I basically just hung around till dinner with a couple friends and then met up with Wes Mahler himself! I was beat as hell and decided to call it quits for the night and day.

Ad-Tech is a great show to find new sources of traffic and branch out into other venues of marketing. Since the issue I had with Google and Facebook I am branching out into new venues and traffic sources. Ad-Tech is a definite show to go to… I might have to hit up Ad-Tech Japan soon…

If you want to expand your affiliate marketing business or online business, then you should have been at ad tech 2009. The experience is all about expanding and finding about customer base and finding new traffic sources outside of Google, YSM, MSN, Facebook, etc.

Especially with affiliate marketing you want to find the most volume possible or expand out to gather more volume but with quality leads. So you will have to know what to ask when you speak to certain people about their traffic. I personally have tested a bunch of traffic sources in the past and I still do it today.

But first lets talk about the first night at ad tech…

There was a No bull party held the night before ad tech. It was a way to gather and hangout with a lot of people in the industry and meetup. There was several parties that night but I ended up staying in one place, didn’t feel like cabing all around the city.

The party was ok, I met a couple new people and a couple new networks. Ran into great friends and just chilt. AffBuzz, Justin was there as well as Roland from Team 202.

In the end there were letting in too many dudes and a bunch of us started to hit the ‘clubs’ for more entertainment. I went with the Ads4Dough Team, Dustin, and several of their affiliates. The ride there was funny and entertaining, everyone was cool.

The next day was the actual conference and damn was the place HUGE!

There were a lot of new traffic sources and new people to talk too. I was talking to a mobile advertising network and when I asked how they determine their traffic, they could not answer, before the girl grab her other friend to help answer I just walked away.

This is why you need to know what kind of traffic you want to run. I ran mobile traffic before and wanted to see what other sources are out there. Just this one didn’t understand what I wanted to do. O well.

Another one was a network and this lady looked like she was super drunk she stumbled by their water cooler and literally had to hold herself up with the water cooler. When asking her questions about basic network stuff, she just gave me her card and told me she was a network. Wonder if she heard my question… tsk tsk

The night was even better since I had dinner with Unique Leads and my good friends Glenn. It was held at his private apartment in NY and damn his place is nice as hell. I met up with Shai, Emil from PPC Bully, Itay and several others. It was a good dinner and damn was it a good dinner!

After dinner went up and meetup with the Clickbooth team. Headed over to Pacha and chilt for a bit until Slick Rick’s Performance came on. The party turned out to be pretty interesting. I hanged out with Clickbooth and Pinnacle Dream. I was also tired as hell from trying to battle the clowns on the dance floor.

But they had some good dancers on eh floor. They had breakers, a Michael Jackson replica which she did a damn good job with the performance and at the end Slick Rick. He didn’t do one song either and bounced.

After Pacha we went out again with Ads4Dough and met up with Pinnacle to the ‘other’ bar. Now that was crazy! We were all up again till 5am and I think I saw the sun rising not sure.

The next day was just meeting up with networks and chilling. Walking around some more so my feet can hurt more and I headed home early. I didn’t want to party 3 nights in a row. Hell I am still beat from Ad Tech!

Here is a mashup video…

Click here to view the embedded video.

Again, want to expand your online business, you need to go to Ad Tech. It provides a lot of great new information and new traffic sources.

I also have one more post to do about ad tech and I am done – yea I did a lot of ish this Ad Tech.

The past couple days was tiring, literally. But also entertaining. The past 3 days I was at Ad Tech 2009 which was held at the Javits Center in NY. This one was hella big and bigger than last years in 2008.

The Javits center alone is just huge. There was a couple things that went wrong like no iPhone 3G service, I had to turn 3G off to get my phone working. But there was a lot of new traffic sources there that was worth stopping by and looking. Also it was great to meetup with everyone that is in the affiliate space and of course seeing all the networks I work with and meeting new ones.

But this post is about our booth we had at Ad-Tech. I have teamed up with Ad Hustler and Bryn Media to give you a new company that is all about buying blog ad space. Ad Hustler Bryn and I was trying to generate a lead and most gave us their business cards and felt pity for our booth, I mean it was just pure awesomeness.

We had to explain to multiple users that our equipment was because of shipment failure. I also had to make sure no one was cutting through our booth, talking or texting within our booth. I told people they had to walk around our booth and not walk through our booth. I regulated that ish!

Ad Hustler got the first lead and many users took pictures of our failed attempt to have a booth. It was def fun talking to users and explaining that our booth was missing in shipping and that our business was all about buying blog ad space.

Everyone was asking us about our ‘company’ and we just or Ad Hustler came up with the good idea of buying blog space. So we all just took it and ran with it. I was busy regulating users not walking through our booth. If you weren’t at Ad-Tech then you should have been. A lot of information and a lot of fun.

Next couple days will be a revamp of the trade show.

This is the last conference I am attending. I really want to go to pubcon next week, but I think I will just relax for the time being and start this conference thing again January. Ad Tech 2008, hmmmmmm. I actually like this conference – it was entertaining and educational. There were a ton of networks there, I assumed because they all are in the greater New York Area.

I went up to Queens and stayed at one of my friends house. I basically just took the train to the Hilton in the city. But Sunday night was my first day and I met up with Benny and Frank, we all went to grab something to eat and decided to join the XY7 pre Ad Tech party. It was strange because there was a mechanical bull and you are seeing affiliates being whiplash off the bull – crap it whip someone off so hard, their credit cards flew out.

I also met up with deStone from my NJ IANteract Meetup202 as well as other readers. Upon arriving to the no bull party, there was a huge line. Now I have no patient and I just called someone I know and bam got in – my legs are fragile and I am old =P. I saw some of my affiliate managers at the party. I recently joined some networks and I didn’t even know I was talking to my own AMs – until they told me – I felt retarted. ha

The next day I started to go through the weird maze of the conference, having the exhibit halls on 3 floors of the Hilton is not a good idea. It was so compact and crowded, I was going to hit someone because of all the damn bumping. It was also really warm. But I met up with Tracking202 team and we were seeing booths inside like closets and seeing bad booth placement – we literally got lost. There were just a ton of booths geared towards out industry, definitely a go to if you want to know affiliate marketing and media buying.

I met up with so many people and I introduce my self to others. Especially networks because I was promoting AFFpinions.com as well as talking to the bigger affiliate networks about a new project I am doing. I literally gave out almost all of my business cards to a lot of the networks, there were way too many. There were networks that didn’t know what they were talking about especially when it came to offers, types of vertical, back end system – why are you at the show!

I had lunch with affiliate.com and met my all my affiliate managers. Prior to this (sidetracking), Monday was my busiest day ever, meetings after meetings after meetings. I met up with networks and I met up with new networks. I had to shift my meetings around because new networks came in and wanted to talk. So I worked around and tried to accommodate everyone I had originally. I had to cancel all my meetings on Tuesday because I was just out of it – sighs.

Anyways, I met up with cool people like Harrison Gervitz, Ruck of Convert2Media, Max from MoneyBites, and others. I spent most of my day with my Mastermind group as well, especially going to the parties. There were a ton of parties and you can probably see some pictures on flickr. But I missed one party I wanted to go to which was the Money Makers 2 Party with Naughty by Nature. By the 6 place we went I was done. I decided to just head back to Queens and get knocked out.

The next day, Wednesday, I came to the exhibit hall late and just browsed around to the smaller booths I might have missed. I had lunch with my main man from XY7 and Harrington J White. I was still feeling the alcohol on my system but the food helped it. I didn’t do much with the exception of just seeing other booths. Later that day I went back to Queens hanged out and went back to Jersey, I am tired – getting old.

I will be leaving for Ad: Tech New York and I look forward to meeting new people. I will be in a day early (today) to meetup with some networks and to meet up with past friends. Since I live in New Jersey it will only be a 30-40 minute drive for me, but I am actually staying at one of my friends house in Queens so I do not have to always drive back and forth.

I also apologize for the lack of posts, I have been busy with a project and Halloween and partying is some hard work. But I have been to Ad Tech prior in San Francisco and I think it wasn’t really geared towards affiliates more. But this one in New York looks good, there are a lot of networks that will be there, I mean there is a couple networks in New York. My schedule has been filled up for Ad Tech because just booking meeting in my calendar with people and such.

I will be meeting up with my mastermind group as well as some of the members from the NJ IANteract Group. If you are attending ad tech, follow me on Twitter and hit me up because I will be posting stuff on there, a lot too. If you see me just yell my name, I will be most likely at the Hilton until later at night. The reason because, since I am staying in Queens, I do not think I will drive back and forth back to the hotel. I will keep it local until the party starts in the evening. So I will probably be chillin at the Hilton and just networking.

Monday night is where all the big parties will be happening. I wish I can get to them all. If you do not know where to party in the city while at Ad Tech, ad tech actually posted all the parties via their blog, which you can see here.

Also, this is my last convference/convention I will be attending for the year. I really want to go to pubcon, which is literally a week after Ad: Tech and I did that week thing between IzeaFest and BlogWorld – man was I tired when I got back. But I look forward till next year and my year starts off with Affiliate Summit West in Vegas!

If your in ad tech – lets grab coffee and IANteract!

The first real day of Ad-Tech was very interesting and educational especially the keynote. The keynote showed a lot of information about our digital age. Jeffrey Hayzlett spoke about Kodak and how they have changed their business model to accommodate the changing economy. How they market and how they approach and what the new brand the consumer sees.

Kodak has changed the perception on how consumers view them as and how the consumers see them. They have changed how they are viewed on the Internet as well. Creating social groups and social networks to help with the demand of digital pictures.

Kodak has changed base on the growing industry, with more people moving from analog to digital – Kodak adopted. The re-branding has helped consumers recognized Kodak as the new digital printing, photo sharing, low ink toners, etc. Being seen as the gateway to the new era, they want to stay right side by the consumer. This allows them to relate with the average consumer whether it be price, needs, in expensive products etc – Kodak is there to help with the changing industry.

More and more marketers and companies see the Internet as a new place to hang out, a place to share and interact without face-to-face contact or even picking up a phone. Companies such as Kodak see the opportunity and want to tackle this industry as close as possible to their digital photography, digital marketing meets digital photography – makes sense.

Exhibit Hall:

This was huge. John Chow says it is not as big as CES but I think it was huge. This would be my second time going to a big convention and compared to Affiliate Summit West, the booths are bigger, more louder, more people, and the hall was bigger! I toured the place for a little with Wes Mahler and John Chow.

Later we went a head and decided to split off as I wanted to meet all my affiliate managers – that had booths this year. John was just throwing footballs in to the crowds of people, evil John evil!

There were a lot of new business aspects such as digital security, security of user data, PPC analytics, email marketing, etc. There was so many a lot were geared towards digital marketing that I did not see a lot of bloggers nor affiliates. Strangely enough some bloggers found me as well as affiliate marketers. Even networks read my blog, which is kind of strange, but readers are readers especially if they read it all the time.

I met with all of my affiliate managers I believe that had booths, even new networks that I recently just joined. It was fun, crowded, informative, and tiring. After several hours talking and engaging with several booths I went back to the hotel.

After Exhibit Hall:

After visiting the exhibit hall and talking to some people I met up with a new blogger who wanted to learn all about affiliate marketing but is scared to jump into it. So far he has spent over 5k in learning courses and ebooks and audio to learn affiliate marketing, yet he is ‘scared’ to jump in. I can feel for him as I was once there and scared to lose the money I have. But 5k in seminars, ebooks, and other aspects of marketing might be a waste if he does not actually do the affiliate marketing for himself.

Marketing alone is not just knowing the knowledge but also doing it and getting the experience. What is all the knowledge with out experience? I also met up with another new person who wanted to get into affiliate marketing and wanted to know how to get out of a 9-5 job. Later in the day Wes Mahler and I met up with him as well as the other person we met up with during the exhibit. We all had dinner and discussed multiple dimensions of affiliate marketing and exchanged ideas.

Later that evening we went to an affiliate network party which later then became several affiliate network parties. The first party we went we engaged our new friends to the affiliate network to get some exposure to what affiliate marketing is. Engagement with the affiliate managers and even discuss how it can better help them in the future as far as income.

As far as the private parties, which proved to be a better place to network and have a more intimate discussion with your affiliate, the night soon turned into chaos. There were several parties that night. We went to 2 bigger affiliate network parties and then ended up going home.

Later that night I met up with Ms. Danielle and Bob at another party at a local bar. Which then once i arrived we went to another bar – erhm Gentlemen’s Club. Everything was great I met new people that are all affiliates, but didn’t really get to talk too much especially if women are dancing in front of your face. Just to let you know the West Gentlemen’s Club has nothing on the East =P! It was very entertaining and one of the big guys just kept buying lap dances for everyone. I was just sitting and then bam a new lady shaking it. But it was entertaining!

I was tired by then and we all took our separate ways back to the hotel.

Pictures from some of the parties, these are from Day 2:

The next couple days I will post about what I learned and experience at Ad Tech and San Francisco. I just want o give you an overall experience of how San Francisco was and the general of Ad:Tech. San Francisco is a great place I do not think it is better than Jersey or make this a West vs East thing but it has its good sides.

First day it was exciting and exciting, you will see the video below on what I have experienced the first day. Over all it was exciting I got to meet up with Tracking202 CEO Wes Mahler and did not realize my hotel was next to his Mac Mansion (soon to be). So we had a night out and that night there were already pre parties for Ad:Tech, but I was tired from the flight so I didn’t bother with them. I just chilled and learned a lot from Wes that night.

Touring San Francisco was amazing – there were a lot of hills and ups and downs, as well as wind! I took the San Francisco experience and took a trolley around town. I met up with Bob and Krystyl and we all toured San Francisco. I am use to the city and San Francisco is really not much different with the exception of the wind. I wanted to go a cross the Golden Bridge but it was too windy, so windy I thought I was going to be picked up and carried away, that is how strong it was.

Some Pictures:

After that night was gone by I went to the hotel to get ready for tomorrow. I uploaded a video of myself with my phone but for some reason it is not viewable on the YouTube network but on the mobile via my phone it was viewable and playable… strange. The next 2 days or so I will talk about the keynotes and the experience from Ad-Tech, exciting!

Ad Tech Wrap Up:

Ad Tech was very exciting but in my nature of online marketing right now it did not seem to fit me. Affiliate Summit West proved to be more beneficial to me just because everyone was a blogger or an affiliate. Ad-Tech is I think geared towards the bigger businesses and startups. A lot of apps and services range from $1k to $40k a month. A lot of the services also looks for heavy volume, so not a lot of the booths really appealed to me nor did it proved to be in my nature, but a good thing to know.

There were affiliate networks there but not a lot of affiliate networking, whenever I spoke to someone it would be either about them being a writer, coder, marketing, media buyer etc. So it really did not pertain to me too much and we really did not have that much to talk about because I was just really not that interested at this time, later down the line maybe.

Tomorrow I will talk about the first day and the keynote itself – just a lot of unpacking I have to do and to get ready for. Also, this weekend I will be ready to setup my LLC and look at new credit cards!

Well here is a video of all the mini videos and picture mashup.

Apologize for grammar and typos, I will start to get back in my editing once I finish unpacking.
