Pressing WordPress to its Limits

I have just finished most of the layout of IanFernando.com. I have searched high and low at other wordpress blogs and found some structures that I liked. So I implemented some of them, again going to test it before keeping the actual format.

Plugins, via wordpress must be the best thing about wordpress. There are so many plugins that fit what everyone needs and wants, for almost anything they need. I have yet to find a good calendar archive, as I see on most wordpress blogs. But there are so many plugins that I have added to my blog. I hope the load time is fast, because I have experienced some slow load with this new format and addition to plugins.

WordPress plugins are programming code that enhance the features of a standard installation of WordPress. A well written plugin will be basically “drag and drop” without modifying the core code of WordPress. As WordPress has been designed in a modular way, plugins allow you to customize your site to your specific needs without modifying the core of WordPress.

I am still in the research of finding the top plugins that so many users are using and I am trying to make sure the load time on my blog is optimal.

Thinking differently or just asking a dumb question, why are there plugins for things that you can just copy and paste, for example: google analytics. Google analytics is a copy and paste code and yet there is a plugin for it. I can understand to have all your information in one location but you can just log into google analytics and get a more indepth detail of your site.

There are even plugins for Google Adsense, which I do not mind since it helps optimizes and you have full control, another feature I like about WordPress.

So now I just want to see what everyones’ plugins are on wordpress. I have found so many useful plugins on wordpress alone. I have tested many and got rid of many. I so far have used a total of 11 plugins. You can view my list below:

  1. Ad-Rotator – I use this plugin for another use as well, not just ads
  2. Adsense Manager
  3. AJax Comments
  4. Akismet
  5. All in One SEO Pack
  6. Evermore
  7. Google SiteMap
  8. Jon’s ShowOff Rankings, still testing
  9. Popularity Contest
  10. Recent Comments
  11. Subscribe to Comments

I am trying to find more plugins that will optimize my wordpress blog. Until then I will test all these new cool plugins.
