Using 123People.com For Market Research

So as new web services come out to help a specific vertical or niche, sometimes you can use it to your advantage – marketing wise. Recently I been using a new site that was recently released or talked about on Mashable.com, its called 123People.com. I use it to find some specific keywords, images, documents, and how popular a phrase.

This specific site is meant to help users look up names, celebrities, your name, your boss name, doctors, etc. It is suppose to help pull information about that person, I mean have  you ever Googled your name? Same fashion but more in depth. From the website:

123people is a real time people search tool that looks into nearly every corner of the Web. Using our proprietary search algorithm, you can find comprehensive and centralized people related information consisting of images, videos, phone numbers, email addresses, social networking and Wikipedia profiles and much more. All of this rich media profile content is pulled from an extensive list of international as well a regional relevant sources. 123people is also a social activity that applies crowd wisdom. Users can add information to every single search result, giving it more relevance with details that are yet not found in the Internet. This takes the quality of people search to the next level.

Well their search or I doubt any search can tell a difference between a name and a set of words. The reason for this is because what if you have some crazy russian or korean name? So the system works just like a search engine and pulls information base on the set of keywords you entered.

Now there are a set of things that are useful to use, the majority of the site is useless (marketing wise) but it does put everything in one window for you. There are some things that you will not use and some things you will find helpful.

I personally like the weblinks box, which shows web searches from all the search engines. Another one that is great is the news section. This way I can find great information and reference articles to a product, example in the screenshot is acai berry. I can take news information and use it as a resource for my landing page. Making your landing page as an expert is very important. You want to make sure your resources are pertaining to a reliable source. That is why advertisers end up putting the ABC logo or CNN logo on their own landing page, it looks authentic.

Another part are the documents section. This is another great way to get great information and LP look more authntic and make you look like an authority in the industry. This section has PDF (and other docs) information which you can provide to  your audience for free, its publicly listed so you can use it free – just can not edit the content. It is a great way to gain leads, because you are providing more information than what may be listed on the advertisers offer page or your own.

Another one that I like alot is almost like spying on competitors, social profiles. These are profiles on social networks such as facebook and myspace that are created just for promoting an offer. It lets me see what they have on their profile and how they are promoting it within the social networks. Though most of them are spam, you can find some helpful ones.

There are other tools on the main page such as:

  1. Tag Cloud
  2. Biography
  3. Image
  4. Blogs
  5. Microblogs

These can be helpful but I found it to be less information that I need from my other sources. It does help to have all th einformation you are looking at in one window. 123People is a good source to use especially if you want to seem to be an authority in your niche, just because you can search documents and news fairly quickly. The most important factor I think I can take from this site is the fact I can look like an expert or seem like an expert on my landing pages.
