Getting Freaking Organized: Part 2

By Ian Fernando

I updated my desk area today and I kinda feel better than my workplace is now better fit for my online business. To my confusion I have found so much junk it I filled 2 trash bags worth of shredded old documents. That is a lot of shredding. I also got rid of the physical mess such as blank CDRs, headphones, pennies and quarters, and other things that do not belong or should belong at my home office.

This has taken me just a couple hours of my time to just clean things a little bit. I didn't mind taking a day off from my regular marketing; I mean I can check my stats and or goals later on tonight after I cook and all that good stuff. But I wanted to give you an update of what was before and what is now! Can you see the difference?

I think this will be better suited for me and my workspace. I will be able to concentrate more instead of what papers are important and what belongs where. I found a place for almost every thing. I basically gave each item a home to stay in. For example I used an old CD spindle to hold all the loose cds that were lying around. I just improvised.

When organizing look at your workspace, what is repetitive to you? You will need to analyze your work area and see what is within reach and what is out of reach. Should you have a refrigerator and a hot plate or just a drawer of protein bars? Well not to that extent but what do you most of the time you are at your work space?

Steve Pavlina says a great thing about analytical organization:

The first step is analysis. How do you spend your time in your office? Make a list of the different types of tasks you perform there, and create a list of functional zones that your office will need. If you are a programmer, this should be an easy task if you think of it in terms of designing a computer program. If you had to program a robot to perform all the different tasks you did in your office, how would you organize those tasks into separate modules?

With everything now systematically organized the better I can work and concentrate on my other goals, like make a universal bird eye view of all my incomes from the different sources. This will be my next goal in the next coming weeks, with of course my traditional marketing but not as concentrated.

I just hope I do not clutter this up within the next couple days. But don't you worry my good luck monkey statue I got from Panama will help me stay on tip top shape!
