I enjoyed The Simpsons movie and after writing about the Top 30 Entrepreneurs Under 30 I thought to myself about the Simpson being entrepreneurs themselves. How so? Well Ned Flanders opened his Leftorium and Homer was Mr. Plow.
Also if you haven't notice promoting the Simpsons was a very big thing for Fox Network. They provided twelve 7 11s to imitate the Kwik E Mart and even took it further by selling squishes and Krusty-Os. Even JetBlue has "The Official Airline of Springfield," it is promoting its new "Woo-Hoo, JetBlue!" aircraft featuring Homer's stubbled mug.
We can learn a lot from the Simpsons, the whole town are all entrepreneurs and provide I think good information on how to be good entrepreneurs. While others such as Mr. Burns is a very forceful entrepreneur using force marketing to his advantages.
Well let's talk about some of the Simpsons accomplishments. Each success secret they talk about are all from Entrepreneur.com.
I mentioned Ned Flanders opening up a store called the Leftorium. This specific niche is very narrow but attracts customers. Why doe it attract customers? Well Ned is lefty and he opened something that he wanted to find a solution too. I have stated that you need to find a problem and provide a solution to the problem. Once that problem is resolve, market it respectively and you can make a fortune.
Another reason I think is because he tithes to his church. Rewarding others before being rewarded is a very powerful attraction. Have you heard of the law of attraction? He gives and will receive bigger later on.
Ned Flanders success secret:
"I always remember that on each dil-doodly-dollar I make at my store, it says 'In God We Trust.' Clean living, bowing to the will of the almighty and denial of all worldly pleasure is Ned's path to business treasure."
Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, another great entrepreneur has real estate! Yes that is right, he is renting his roof top apartment to Paul and Linda McCartney. Real estate is a very great business, especially in area where you can buy and sell right away. Apu surviving his day from gun shots, constant robbery, health inspector, and his crowded family shows that he is still determined to stay in Springfield. Other from his Real Estate, Apu customer service is exceptional great. Always speaking and greeting customers as they walk and leave his store.
Having great customer service or at least recognizing your readers/customers is critical to know that they will return again and again. First time experience is very important.
Apu Nahasapeemapetilon success secret
"Courtesy is a convenience store operator's best weapon, as well as knowing the procedure for armed robbery and using the deadly arts to protect my reasonably priced merchandise."
Krusty the Clown owns his Krusty Empire: Krusty Burger, Krusty-Os, TV shows, Toys, etc. He solves the problem of the lack of comedy in Springfield. Though Krusty is not the funniest as some may see, he does have a great empire of products which is needed in an everyday need. Hes specific niche targets kids, and targeting kids is a great niche as long as you can attack it in a good manner. Kids are always in demand for attention and they seek attention if you like it or not. From harmful Krusty Toys to greasy heart killer Krusty burgers, his empire is strictly for the kids.
Krusty the Clown's success secret:
"You gotta do it for the kids. All the gags, all the shilling, being treated like some dumb sap by the network executives, it's all for the booze and the floozies--um, I mean kids. Huh hu huh hu!"
Moe's Tavern has evolved into several night clubs and even a restaraunt, always trying to attract a new crowd, especially the ladies. Moe even has a consistent amount of traffic to his bar, a grand total of 4: Homer, Carl, Lenny, and Barney. They are always returning no matter what Moe does to his bar. After the failures of his night club and restaurant he realizes his strength is doing something he likes and enjoys, bar tending. What makes them return besidees the alcohol?
Consistent traffic can be the health of a website or business, without that specific traffic there is something really wrong withyour products/content etc. Which means you need to fix something.
Moe's success secret:
"Serve the scumbags their beer and stay one step ahead of the restraining orders. I ain't no good at nothin' else, and I always says, 'Focus on your strengths."
Comic Book Guy has his own comic book store; serving new releases of comic books and memorabilia. He has great knowledge is his products. Having great information and speaking like a great orator when selling, means he can sell because he can talk! Without knowing what your product is about what is the point of selling. This means that you do not support your product 100% or maybe you do not even use it! To sell you need to know how to speak and most of all have great knowledge and why it can be beneficiary; I mean Bart sold his soul to him.
Comic Book Guy's success secret:
"While most Springfieldians believe I am just the rotund 'nerd' who purveys comic books in an attempt to pollute the minds and empty the pockets of their youth, it is their inferior intellect that allows me to rule with an iron fist--at least in my own store."
Mr. Burns is very powerful, using the weak to gain his power. To me he uses force marketing, forcing others to do what he needs. There are some marketers out there that use newbies to their advantages and sell them books guranteeing them success overnight. This to me will not work. There are even marketers out there that use force marketing requiring users to opt-in before entering a website. To me this type of business, using the weak to your advantage is not promising as once someone gathers the proper information they will most likely just ignore you.
Mr. Burns success secret:
"Family, religion, friendship. These are the three demons you must slay if you wish to stay in business."
The Simpsons Family are all well known entrepreneurs, especially Homer: Starting his own Internet Business, which Bill Gates 'bought' out. Season business being Mr. Plow and the Ice Cream Man, Homers business ideas just keep going. Always capturing his dreams even going out to space! Homer is not the brightest person, but has the will and wants in order to capture his dream. If he fails he usually does it again until he meets success. He even used offline marketing by selling body section for ads!
Homer's success secret:
"If at first you don't succeed--d'oh!--try again the next time you find some free junk in the road."
A regular family that has accomplished many entrepreneur dreams but are still broke. The only difference is they are always consistent and always have love for each other.
Who else do you think has the Simpsons Entrepreneurship?
